Hey boys and girls.. and mostly bots, I just joined the platform and I would like to share my experience so far with the rest of the community on what I think of the steemit so far and why I'm a bit frustrated.
I knew about steemit for, idk maybe 1-2 years but never had the interest to take a closer look because I disliked the concept of creating money out of thin air and giving it to "content creators".
In my humble opinion it's a concept that's bound to fail from the start because you're forced to put 90% of your resources into banning bots and cleaning spam. That's what I thought at the time and that's what I still think to this day.
So why did I join?
Today I woke up and decided to look for some freelance work that pays crypto and after googling for a couple hours I stumbled upon steemit again so I decided to create an account and take a closer look at the platform.
Tried to sign up and noticed that you have to pay approximately $2. Understandable and in my opinion it's a good thing at the end of the day. It's a step closer towards keeping the bots off.
So I created the account and started surfing the platform. I wanted to understand how the things work, what kind of content gets the most impact, what's trending and so on..
TLDR: I joined because I thought I could make some easy crypto
2 hours later
I had low expectations - I knew there was going to be some spammy content, some bots, some low quality articles, pictures of chicks, cats, flowers and random shit - but I had expected at least 1 out of 50 articles to be half-decent.
Nope.
There's 0 content made by actual people that have something to say.
Maybe there is quality content but it gets buried below all the trash, maybe there's no quality content because there never was, or maybe there was at some point but those people left. I don't know and I'm too lazy to look into it.
So my conclusion is this..
Despite the fact that things are not - in my opinion - that great, I think that if enough people join and create small communities with actual content and if the big boys behind the code put enough effort into making sure the trash stays below and quality content starts rising and is encouraged - I could see a world in which the platform survives the long run.
Personally I will stick around for some more time.
I will post daily stuff but I don't expect to make any money off it because I'm positive that almost nobody is going to find nor read my pile of garbage.
So in conclusion, if you're not a bot and if you want to read my next ultra high quality post make sure you follow me. <3
BTW if you've actually read the whole thread please comment below my last tag, as a social experiment :)
See you tomorrow.. or not.
Ok - here you are - a critical steemian ... that's what we need here!
Welcome and be sure to stay ;) I do not want to follow dead steemians :)
I like the post and the tag "hookersandcocaine" ... have you worked for steemit inc.? People say that's what it was about in the offices :)
STEEM ON!!!
@siur I read the whole thing.
Yours is an interesting perspective from a new user. I understand it’s frustrating to use to start with. And that kind of feedback is useful and hopefully noted by Steemit devs.
I like finding new people under the introduceyourself tag. You’ll be amazed at the communities that exist beneath the surface.
There are MANY real humans posting and curating, making real meaningful connections.
STEEM it is not a perfectly oiled machine and no one is saying it is. It’s there is a lot of garbage post. But so is Facebook. And Twitter. But Steem is for many thousands of real users a thriving place.
The STEEM token has so many uses it’s quite amazing. @exyle has many vlogs about just how useful and brilliant the steem token is. I’ll try and dig out a relevant video of his for you.
Success on the platform just needs work; consistency, engagement and giving a shit - and you will be supported.
I’ve earned 80% of my STEEM here. The rest I bought in bits and pieces over the last 18 months or so.
Welcome and I hope your experience becomes better with time. Go follow some interesting people.
And use https://www.steempeak.com for a way better UI. Steemit.com is so old and dated, with barely any features without using an extension.
#hookersandcocaine
thanks for the read and for the suggestions. I guess I'll start digging some more
Congratulations @siur!

Hey hey! I did find your post because I was scrolling through 'the garbage' trying to find awesome posts to read - I'm a curator on the platform and there are many curating groups around - as indeed without people selecting posts there's not an easy way to find the good stuff.
Let me know which subjects you're interested in and I'll point you towards the right communities or one or two authors that are worth reading.
Getting the hang of Steem takes time and work - as people won't automatically start reading your content as this is more a social platform than a 'real' content platform. I hope you're going to stick around!
Cheers!
PS: A post about yourself with the #introduceyourself tag is always appreciated and gets some people to find you and welcome you.
well shit, 2 people actually read the whole thing :)
I guess I'll stand corrected - there is still hope.
Thanks for the tips, I'll look into the suggestions.
:D See how much more fun it is now you know there's real people here? :D
If you don't like steemit.com you can also use steempeak.com - it looks a bit better and on the top of the frontpage they have some links to 'curated posts' - ie less sucky and sometimes even good content ;-)
Just say '@soyrosa' in a post or whatever if you have questions - I'll always try to answer them as I once was as frustrated and in doubt as you are now :-) Good luck!
allright @soyrosa thanks!
I’ve literally just replied to this chap (I assume it’s a chap..?) suggesting steempeak and realised you’re in the comments too!! We have similar tastes in suggestion! Hello @soyrosa :)

:') We're both wise people it seems :P
I took a brief look at steempeak but at least ux-wise I prefer steemit.. unless there's features (that I'm not aware of) that I'm missing.
Might change my mind later.. idk..
Steempeak has inbuilt notifications - where as with steemit you will need the steemplus browser extension for all the same info and stats.
Steempeak also has more sophisticated wallet functions (delegate, powerup, transfer etc) that don’t require you to visit another URL (the steemitwallet.com)
Also, lastly, Steempeak works with KeyChain login extension offering super secure login without entering or saving your keys directly to the browser or anywhere else. Steemit doesn’t work with KeyChain (yet)
Anyway, those are some reasons I use it. Plus it’s more aesthetically pleasing.
Worth a try anyway. 👍🏻
