Hi Steemians!!!
The only true merit that can lead us to salvation and tranquility is our capacity for kindness. The only way we can thrive, not as individuals, but as a species, is if we are prepared to forgive.
Man is a creation so full of wonder, magnificence, and potential. Our most distinct characteristics as creatures capable of thought and blessed with free will can lead us to an infinity of horizons, all ready to be discovered in the joyous curiosity of these corporeal and perpetual beings, always fighting and learning and rising to dominate the universe with their grandeur.
But mankind is also so full of folly and madness. Our mistakes and our cruelties have left an irrefutable stain of fear and hatred on the face of history and civilization. Think of where we would be and what we could accomplish were we to simply listen to the lost voice of history that desperately struggles to not have to repeat itself.
In our societies, the fervency of the human endeavor to survive and live life to its fullest makes for a questionable and perplexed realm of morality or what we distinguish as rights and wrongs, and even though there is still so much hope for mankind, their deceitful desires can compel them to become cruel and cowardly, and one can’t help but wonder how we would react if such cruelties were visited on us?
It is unfortunate that we live in a society where the most reasonable course of action in face of cruelty is a swift and utter retaliation. We believe that no wrong deed should go unpunished, and that may be true, but in the process of achieving such reckoning, we are pushed to the edge of losing our humanity.
Hatred breeds hatred, and violence begets violence. When you answer cruelty with cruelty, you are no better than the people who were cruel to you. You are just cruel in your own right and in your own way. But what would happen if you answered the hatred of others with kindness and passion?
You may already be feeling the rush and the compulsion to shout your argument in the face of mine; that we should not forgive those that would do us wrong, justifying our conscience with a fallacious belief that if a crime or wrongdoing goes unpunished, the person who committed it will continue to do so. Well, I am not saying that you should forgive, nor am I denying or approving such argument.
What I am saying is that instead of indulging our gratifying need for retribution, we can find and show a better way to the world. This is not about the other person; for the one who decides to do others wrong has already decided to forsake his own humanity.
Have you ever considered that in the search for retribution, you might also lose something that would only leave you with regret and remorse? For in doing so, you may not seek justice, but to see the suffering of the one who has been cruel to you.
Have we once stopped to consider the consequence of embracing darkness to avenge what others have done to us? Thus begins the cycle of hatred and violence, drowning the human society in its flames and stripping it of its ideal state of peace and prosperity.
We have all gone through pain and suffering in our lives. Endless cruelties have been visited on us and those closest to us, and we will tolerate more and more transgressions until we reach the end of our journey in life.
Ask yourself this: What do we achieve by embracing the crippling darkness of the deeds that have hurt us? Whereas in forgiveness, we show a better way to those around us, and in doing so, set forth the foundations of the ideal society that we have always been dreaming about.
A BIG HUG! ============================ Important Note! I have been working very hard on this blog since the beginning. I have a very busy life but I am giving my best and believe me I have shared experiences that I have been coaching thousands of people and I know that the change of the Mindset should be daily. I am already grateful to see you giving upvotes to each other and you can see this with the fact that many already have 8, 9, 10 upvotes. But I'm sure that with the effort of all of us we will see a community with, 40, 50, 80 upvotes and for that everyone should get engaged so we can make it come true. I believe and we can! Resteem... ***Remember Community: Please, if you commented and upvote on a new post I did, please always go back to the previous one because if someone in the community commented lastly because of time zone differences it will be without your upvote and that would not be fair. You all know the goal! We can reach: 50+ Upvotes each others! Attention!!! I'm reading all the meaningful comments from the posts. I am here making a list of all of you who have helped build this community by voting for each other who write meaningful comments and soon I will respond to everyone with comment and thank you all because I can already see this spirit being built in this Positive Mindset community and help between all of you. You will receive my upvote in all material and brief comments I will do this in all the posts I am following very closely and I can see what the people who are generous and contribute to this legacy that I am trying to build with all of you can become reality in a short time. From now on I will always make a list of these incredible people who have helped to expand our goal of growing ever more. And if you are not on this list, please, after making your comment, write in that comment: Include my profile in the list, because I do or want to be part of all this with all of you! But I ask that if you are new around here you read many of the previous posts because they make it clear that we are building a community with respect among all, generosity and this blog is for those who really want to start moving their Mindset to positive and moreover be part of the growth of all of us who contribute to this blog. Please do not ask to include you in the list if you are just wanting votes or speculating because we want here people genuinely attuned to growth and good attitudes and as I have always said with Respect as the basis of all, generosity and positivity! Remember the rules. First leave your comment meaningful and then leave your message that you want to be included in this comment. Everyone is welcome and I hope this list grows exponentially because this will be a reflection of everyone's growth. I really do not want to be able to update the list of so many people that can be included in it. Let's go together towards the 50+ upvotes to recognize the efforts of those who dedicate their time so that we can become stronger and leave a legacy of growth in our lives and in the lives of others! ABOUT OUR LIST!!! WE NEED GROW THIS LIST! LET'S GO TOGETHER IN THIS COMMUNITY - RESTEEM! I'm not going to put this list in all the posts because I do not quite understand why, but some people did not like me to tag them even though this list is a list of acknowledgment and thanks from the people I've observed being the ones who write meaningful comments , are generous voting for each other and contribute more to this family we are building here. I think this is a fascinating piece of work. I understand the history of crime and punishment, revenge and retaliation. But I think we must grasp an important principle that we must model the behavior we wish to encourage, we must not meet hate with hate and rationalize our hate. Neither should we meet violence with violence and rationalize our violence as being the appropriate response. We must see that rationalization is the starting point for many bad or horrific deeds.
We must understand that criminals rationalize stealing, assaulting or murdering to achieve an end. Their end is to enrich themselves or sometimes to survive. To them the end justifies the means. We may feel that their end doesn’t justify the means. When we capture them we put them on trial and sometimes execute them. We kill them just as they killed someone else. We justify our killing as proper punishment or justice. But we fail to see we are also rationalizing. We are saying our end “justice” justifies our means “killing”. I know everyone will say these are different things, one is murder for money the other is murder for justice. I would say to those who say this that yes you are right that they are different. I understand, but do you understand how they are also the same?
A life has been taken in both scenarios and someone is dead. While to some the death of the murderer is justice, but in reality it doesn’t bring the victim back, all it does is make the executioner a murderer. I hope one day we will understand this concept. A life was taken and now another life is taken. They are truly the same.
I believe that we will only come to a point where all society values life and human rights when we value all life and all humans rights. If we are heart broken by the death of a little girl or boy at the hands of a murderer, and we seek answers as to why it happened and how it is to be prevented. We must understand human behavior and justification for assault and taking another’s life. As long as we assault criminals with batons, tear gas and kill them with electric chairs we are justifying assault and murder. We are teaching that these things are okay under circumstances we define. We are rationalizing. This makes it possible for all people, both good and bad, to rationalize their behavior also. When we as a species decide that there is no acceptable rationalization for assault or murder we will be taking the first step towards ridding our society of violence.
Only light can illuminate the dark, only peace can stop war, only heat can warm you in the cold.
If we want people to stop being hateful we must show love and compassion. If we want people to stop being selfish and greedy we must show generousity. If we want criminals to stop killing people we have to stop killing criminals. If we want to stop people from self justifying horrible deeds, those deeds must become unjustifiable to all.
I hope people will one day understand this.
Great Reflexion Friend! Regards
Thank you. I also enjoyed reading the responses to your article and I am upvoting thoughtful comments on this post per your instructions. 😊
They were all thoughtful👍😊
Hi @shortsegments very well written. You have nicely explained multiple scenarios and even the solution for the same and rightly said that only light can illuminate dark. Good work.

Thank you.
This was a good read. I liked the part where you posed the question that we might lose something chasing after retribution. I have found people who can be gracious even after having been offended, to be people of great character and strength. I have been having a challenging time over the last several years. One of the things that has allowed me to endure has been the kindness shown to me by God's children. We never know what someone is going through. Simply by showing them kindness we can strengthen and encourage for the journey that they are on. I tell others "while I can not run your race for you, I can run it with you."
Include my profile in the list, because I do or want to be part of all this with all of you!
Hi! Excellent post. I like the sentence:
We have recorded in our subconscious the phrase of the old testament: Eye for an eye.
It is difficult not to correspond a blow with another blow.
As Mr. @shortsegments said:
It is important to plant this seed in our minds. Maybe the next time we face an extreme situation, we stop to think why we behave the way we behave and decide to break the cycle. Change our attitude in the face of adversity.
Thank you for reminding us that there is light in the world
Thank you for your kind words.
Dear @chbartist sir
Very beautiful article of the great mindset. Our forgiveness is the best medium to conquer the culprit. History is a witness that humanity has not been benefited from anywhere with anger and hatred. How many cruel rulers came, destroyed civilizations, imposed their ideas and ruled them, but civilizations where they remained. The existence of the world is due to love and forgiveness. Because of retribution and hatred, we lose the path of peace and we lose our morals in search of vengeance, only later regret comes. When we try to give the answer of hatred to hate and to respond to violence by violence, humanity becomes tarnished and the beginning of a cruel yoga. The world rests on love and mercy even today, by moving forward to this initiative, we have to leave human beings for the betterment of humanity and move on to the path of non-violence.regards

I see much light in your words and much truth! I must admit that in the face of the mistreatment of others, abuse, hatred, I cannot respond with flowers. Many times I have controlled myself, but other times I have let see a part of me that embarrasses me, but it is mine. I feel that we are living, at least in Venezuela, in a moment in which we distrust the kindness of others, we ask ourselves where is the trap, that I will give in return and even in the false that can be the other person, because we are already used to people acting badly, aggressive, with vengeance. These days in a supermarket I witnessed a young woman approaching a very old lady and said: "And that sugar, lady? And the lady turned violently and looked at her with anger and almost shouted at her: it is mine! The girl looked at her in surprise and said nicely: I know it's yours, but where are they to grab one? The lady changed her tone and explained. From a distance I saw how the friendly answer of one, avoided the war between the two! People are like lying in wait, waiting to fall for someone to tell them something, to do something to them. Kindness and generosity are products of great value!
Very nice post @chbartist promoting #light and #forgiveness. This is a subject that I have spent many long hours thinking and talking about with friends and family. In my own life I have experienced several incidents where wrong was done against me and I worked very hard to not incite any grudge or ‘payback’ against those who did me wrong. This sometimes was not easy as we have all been indoctrinated to believe that we have a right to punish those who do us wrong. I firmly believe that this action only brings you down to the same level as those that have done you wrong. By embracing the #light, practicing #forgiveness sends positive energy to the perpetrator and actually breaks the chain of negative behaviour. I really love to read posts like yours because they are written from the heart and actually offer real advice to others who might be needing to hear these words at this particular time. Especially at #christmas time people are getting together with their families and exchanging gifts and spending quality time together away from their busy every day lives. If we carry heavy thoughts and emotions in our hearts left over from when others have done us wrong, then this affects the energy we bring to our families and friends.
I believe that it is not up to us to dole out retribution to others. Each person’s karma will play out in their lives. Retribution does not balance the scales, rather it brings with it more negativity. Forgiveness and light sent to those who have wronged us, helps them and it also helps us by lightening our load and setting us free.
I would love to be part of your community, please add me to you list and thanks you for posting all the other #steemers names so we can check each other out and connect on the #blockchain to form a strong and meaningful community. I love your work!🙏
Hello friend, I hope you are well, in terms of your article yesterday I was just talking to a relative on the subject, and we conclude that the human being is very proud, sometimes it is difficult to forgive others, but the promordial is do it and not always live with a grudge of what happened, excellent post, greetings!
Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
In Christianity, forgiveness is the love of Christ in action. It's not easy to be kind and forgiving in this wicked world. But I've learned how to forgive through the power of Christ; for we were commanded to be kind, tenderhearted and forgiving to one another as Christ had forgiven us.
Forgiveness sets your heart and spirit free.

Hi @chbartist.
This was a very nice topic. Forgiveness has a unique place in the world. This is a virtue that will make the world a better place. But it is generally replaced by anger and hatred according to me Forgiveness can be focused by considering the good virtues and compassion.
When they were beating Jesus on the Cross, he was in such pain but still, he was praying for those men who bet him..."My Lord please FORGIVE them, they know not what they do". That was his compassion.
I was delighted to read this post. I just wonder how do you come up with so many nice ideas and your language is really awesome. And your writing style is unique and touching.
Thanks!

Great article. Hit it right on the head. I think the problem is how much we love each other. If the world would do a little bit more loving and less hating. The world would be a better place. Have a nice day @chbartist
I admit, it was the title that caught my eye first. Further reading filled me with fascination and thankfulness for you have revealed this topic to a firm personal stand I couldn't agree more with. Thank you for setting positive ethical standards so clearly!
Ahh! The power of kindness! I try to instill it in my granddaughter and some of the kids that I work with, start them young to exercise kindness.

My grandmother also raised me and today, at age 52, I dedicate more than ever to her teachings. I will follow you and read your publications. Greetings (I do not speak English, I use a translator).
Lovely that you follow your grandmothers teachings. Hope to hear more of them.
glad we made an acquaintance!
Once again thanks a lot @chbartist
This is magnificent don´t you think @crypto.piotr How can we change this world....?
but I would love to be in peace everyday for the rest of my life, but I know and everybody knows that is not possible because everything you said in your post @chbartist is completely right .
Good things and bad things exist in this world, bad people and good people too.
Forgiveness is not difficult, this is such a way how people think, if you forgive someone your life will be in peace, you are no one to judge people.
Also forgive is just called forget, nothing happened, everything is right...
Behavior´s people can change the world for a better one, stop punish, stop fighting, stop war, stop everything.
We can promote great values for the population and improve ourselves starting with our children, family, relatives, friends...
ps: Please I would like to ask you to add me to the list, I would like to feel like at home .... HOME SWEET HOME.... PEACE..
Another great comment @edgarare1 :)
I love how supportive you are. Im sure I told you that already :P

thanks a lot. I read you reply a few minutes... surprise...
Last week, precisely one of my publications was about forgiveness ...
Forgiveness is one of the greatest signs of love ... a person who does not know how to forgive, simply does not have love in his heart, it is difficult to forgive but it is a necessity ... a person who does not forgive lives oppressed, bitter, whereas when there is forgiveness there is peace, there is freedom ... Jesus Christ taught us that we must forgive, and if we want to be forgiven we must be the first to forgive ... because in this way we have freedom and peace.
We must be peacemakers and not pay bad for evil, or not hold a grudge for something that they have done to us, if we are peacemakers we can calm a lot of violence.
The word of God tells us:
Proverbs 15: 1
Proverbs 16:24
We cannot judge others as that is not up to us to decide and having those thoughts do not promote anything to improve society today. As we become more borderless and global due to technology, we must always have in mind that iur diversity and cultures are what make us citizens of this world bo matter the past.

Nice post. To forgive is to be free. People don't realize that retaliation often causes more pain to yourself. We would all be alot happier if we learned to truly forgive and forget.
Quite true@chbartist and, I have to add this, I have been for so long struggling to overcome my hatred for someone who did unspeakable things to me and, I am still in that journey. thank you for this beautiful post.
I have learned the great value of forgiveness and the sins were grievous. I spent time in anger and bitterness over my decades of abuse and have risen to a freedom of forgiveness knowing that my life has its purpose and my future is secure and promising with no regrets over retribution. Good article.

I'm the one who always think to take a revenge who hurt me in my personal life.
Honestly I never thought the way you are showing. Is it ever possible to achieve that as a human being?
Maybe we all have certain level of kindness but forgiving those who did such wrong to us is hard to achieve.
But what about the one who doesn't hurt us personally but oppressing millions of human for years in other means? Does showing kindness and forgiveness still can do much to get the basic rights back? I'm wondering.
Your words are inspiring but I think it's a long to thing to achieve.

I do not wish to avenge myself for any ill received, it is not in my nature, I do not remember at that moment blocking that feeling.
Loving and wishing well who has hurt me has helped me to travel in this world a little cruel, without traumas or grudges,. Or maybe it's my bad memory that makes me let through what others have turned into their flag or war cry. :)
upvoted :D
Hi @chbartist the last line says a bigger meaning.
Darkness cannot destroy darkness. Only light can do that.
This is true and we must believe in this thought. We are human being and we should be humble and polite to the people around us and others too. Being hatred or punishing is not the solution. We have to forgive to make the change and if everyone adopt it then this world will become a great place to live.
Sharing love can change the world and fighting with each other will not make any good change. Have a great day friend @chbartist

People who do not forgive live in denial that their guilty of the same sometimes, they profess the perfection which they do not have. Because a person who is conscious of himself being an offender sometimes, be it intentionally or unintentional will always treat other people with kindness when they wrong him.
This is the million-dollar question
I was precisely writing about revenge yesterday (for a different post). It is a dark path and i don't do well in the dark. Why so many people follow that path is beyond me. Disgracefully, political leaders, on behalf of entire nations take this retaliatory attitude and cause death and destruction on a daily basis.
As you rightly point out, violence and hatred begets more of the same, usually at a higher scale.
I aslo posed recenlty a question on musing.io about why is it that we can't get along with each other, what is wrong with humanity (it wasn't much valued and mostly misunderstood). You have answered that question brilliantly here.
It's not that we are so many and so diversed, therefore making understanding impossible (if that is the case, why do we think so highly of ourselves, why do we conceive such ambitious projects of human development and possibilities?).
Either we are great and can therefore overcome differences or we are doomed to disaster and therefore uncapable of conceiving or materializing big dreams. I believe in the former.
Excellent article and good photos. I think the history of our civilization could be summarized in one of the main ideas of your post: darkness cannot be fought with darkness. I just was remembering Griseida in Troy, in her dialogue with Achilles: "Hector killed Patroclus, now you killed Hector" ... And later: Paris kills Achilles ... In short, love is the solution! Greetings, @chbartist!
Revenge leads to darkness and staying in darkness brings one more closer to death. @chbartist nice post. I have really learnt from this post

The Bible admonishes us not to pay evil with evil,However, most of us who claim to be followers of Christ Jesus hardly remember this; as the spirit of retribution is the next course of action when we are offended. When you pay evil with evil then you are evil personified. Though its human nature to revenge but the act of forgive is lot better because it gives peace of mind and you won't feel hurt inside when you meet up with the person that hurt you. To show kindness instead of hatred is divine. Best regard @chbartist
gracias por compartir tu crecimiento personal, lo comparto. cada vez que veo un acto de bondad o una buena acción crece mi esperanza en la humanidad. hacer la diferencia como argumentas en tu post hará un mundo mejor.
First time reading work by you - nice job although I skipped the stuff at the end. I agree with you on most of what you said, but I have two points to add.
There are those who cannot be redeemed by society given the knowledge and technology we currently possess, and that includes the seriously mentally damaged people such as psychopaths. It would take, at this point, genuine willingness on the part of the psychopath and years of therapy to help one reconnect with their emotional palette. Thus, people who have been irretrievably damaged, I'm afraid, are mostly a lost cause. It's not their fault, really, but we lack the ability to help them.
In order to make significant changes with long-term impact, it would require systemic behavioral changes across all cultures and religions, at all levels, and indoctrination (i.e. brainwashing) would be required to reprogram people, some of whom would be immune, and how can we trust the puppeteers at the top to do what's in everyone's best interest instead of their own? We can't. Yes, we should all try to avoid seeking revenge, give love, make good choices, and so on, but it would be naive, in the face of the human condition, to behave as if everyone will just start acting better because we turned the other cheek. Some people just aren't willing to change...
That said, I certainly would like to see heaven on Earth!
Hug reciprocated! :) Feel free to put me on the list...
Thank you @reveurgam. You are included now! Regards

This part of your sharing actually strikes me the most. I hope you do not mind me making it as a quote and share to friends outside Steemit.
I have your steemitid at the bottom, so you know it is your quote.
It is so easy to say that "I can forgive", but when one choose not to forget the details of the wrong doing, the forgiveness somehow is still incomplete.
I personally would say I have not entirely achieved that victoriously, but I suppose all we need to do is start with the first step.

but the problem is unkind people use kindness of well meaning person, we cant be blindly kind but we need to be wise......CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!

"Think of where we would be and what we could accomplish were we to simply listen to the lost voice of history that desperately struggles to not have to repeat itself." This statement if followed through would advance society so far along it could not possibly keep up with itself. We continually reinvent the wheel thinking this time we have a better answer.
Having empathy for all will go a long way to improving our interactions with all of society.
Loved your thinking in this post!
