The Balance Between Your Workload and Your Efficiency...

in #mindset6 years ago (edited)

Hi, dear Steemians!

Today, we are going to talk about the concept of efficiency. When we say something or someone is efficient at their job, what do we really mean?

Imagine a decent vehicle with the sole purpose of helping people move from one place to another. This vehicle could be a highly modern train. The train moves at a staggering speed and is always efficient at doing its job.

Imagine that the train can pace 400 kilometers per hour. Can a human being do that?

The answer might be obvious, but the point is not.

image1.jpg
img src

When we talk about efficiency and productivity in human beings, we need to understand how their mind works and processes information.

Robots, cars, and other vehicles are always made with a sole intention and that is why they are so efficient at doing something.

For example, a robot that can cook will not be able to clean your house, and if it were to do both, it wouldn’t do it as good as when he is only made to do one thing.

Human beings are obviously different than robots.

They come up with imaginative ideas and then proceed to turn them into reality. A person might find himself learning a new language at one point in their life, and living the life of an adventurer in another.

We might pursue a career in arts and then forsake it for a good business opportunity.

Sometimes, we even try to do several things at the same time.

image3.jpg
img src

This is the main problem with humans. They are often too easily distracted by the many things that they may find themselves capable of doing.

A train that paces 400 kilometers cannot also pick up your dry cleaning. I mean, we could certainly try, but it just wouldn’t be as efficient as it was when it performed only one deed.

In our lifetime, we want to pursue many things, but when we lose the balance, we are doomed to mediocrity.

And mediocrity is the idea that you are indeed ‘capable’ of doing many things, but you cannot do any of them perfectly or properly.

image4.jpg
img src

Mediocrity is fine, so long as you learn to live with it.

Meaning, that you could decide here and now what you want to do with your life and then dedicate every living moment to become great in that field, or you could pursue many things and live a life of adventure, but you cannot expect to achieve greatness in one particular field.

Efficiency is a quality of focus and time. If you are not focusing enough in your life, you cannot expect yourself to be efficient.

Many of you try to do something extraordinary, but there a lot of things in your life that also need your attention, and you find yourself not being able to fully dedicate yourself to that extraordinary deed.

image2.jpg
img src

At the end of the day, a person with a balanced life is someone who knows that he has to do and what he actually wants to do.

That way, you won’t get pulled aside by the many distractions of our modern life and can actually dedicate your time to something that you find fulfilling.

In a world of mediocrity, dedicate your attention and become a train that paces to success and achievement.

A BIG HUG!

Balance is key as I often say and learn about as life continues. The ability ro maintain will drive clear minds towards the fruition of goals and objectives with less hesitation from our minds!

The main dilemma is the need to feel that we comply with our work in the best way possible, but without harming our personal or family life. All human beings seek balance, that feeling of peace and harmony in our lives that guarantees stability and happiness.
This balance starts from discovering us full and realized in all areas of our life (personal, family, couple, social and professional). We will be happier to the extent that we obtain complete satisfaction in each of them, otherwise we will live with the eternal feeling that we are missing something. In the worst case, we will live dragging behind the dreams that we will not be able to fulfill.
Many people think that this balance is the privilege of a few since they only focus on doing the simple comparison of the 8-12 hours devoted to work compared to the 2-3 hours dedicated to the education of the children and the family.
From my point of view there are two complementary strategies that are key to achieving a life in balance.
The first is a sufficient proportion of time dedicated to the inner world (personal development) and social (relationships) that will be different for each person.
The second, have a clear life purpose, that includes personal and professional challenges, and a good balance of our dedication to both interests.
There are people who have a very rich inner world and others who are more relational, there are also people involved in work or in their personal lives, and anything goes, although it is important to be clear about what makes us happy to define that unique and personal balance .
From my experience I dare to say that as a rule the dedication we offer to the inner world is very scarce or better said practically nil, especially because of the unconsciousness of both its need, and the power of freedom that it gives.
Thanks @chabrtist

Efficiency is somewhat overrated, competing hard for success can lead to a very critical stress situation, even if you only focus on one goal and become really efficient at it.

I prefer to live a life of adventure - I don't agree in calling it a mediocre life - and be happy tasting the different flavors of life and staying with those I have liked.

Yeah, We should maintain the balance between workload and efficiency. Always learning from your post, yesterday I know the meaning of "Drenched" and today I know the meaning of " Mediocrity".
Thanks for educating us @chbartist

Efficiency in the workplace is very essential for a company, this at the same time is synonymous with security, knowledge and responsibility with what is being done. Many greetings, @chbartist.

Sir this is necessary time management that help me stay of top task more better understanding done for in the controlling time organised.

The machines have been created by humans, they take the work that they want from the machines on the basis of their understanding and skill.

I think this is I have done through the batter managing time spend time in right work and right places without stress important in quality.

It is a good fact that we can not make time and balance by setting a lot of goals together, so we should focus on any one from the target and then we can fulfill it.

Dedication is a requirement of being successful. Even though situation and life is hard but we should learn to maintain the pace.
Keep inspiring us with such interesting content.

I like it:

In a world of mediocrity, dedicate your attention and become a train that paces to success and achievement.

You have raised two truths in this post:

  1. We are too distracted to do many things at once without focusing on what is really important and productive for us.

  2. Do many activities at once does not allow us to have quality results, it makes us mediocre.

Living without focusing on doing what we do best is wasting our time of life. Maybe, we live with a lot of fun, but we could finish our last year with a lot of frustration.

Best regards

The greater happiness, the greater efficiency

If it is already very difficult to perform at 100% for 8 hours, how to perform when you work more. The performance index varies throughout the day and also depends on each person. There are workers who at 8 in the morning have a high performance, but for others it is very difficult to give everything at that time. Some prefer an exercise time in the morning and delay the start time of the workday, because they are more active all day. Other people prefer to stop only 20 minutes to eat something at midmorning and leave early, and others do not mind leaving very late but do not make them get up early.

Here are some tips that will help achieve emotional balance:

  • Your leisure is not less important than your work. Going to the gym, going out with friends or playing with your children brings you numerous benefits that you should not sacrifice.

  • Take good advantage of your free time. This should help you disconnect from your daily obligations.

  • Make a good plan with realistic schedules. Planning helps to give you time to do more things with less stress. Sometimes you think you can do more things than you can really cover.

  • Plan the rest too. Rest and sleep is also taking advantage of time. You need it.

hi chb! i feel every word of this post. Im a very mediocre human in the sense of achievements and honestly it hunts me, i havent a achieved a single thing since my very birth and at the same time i /can/ domany things.
now being a parent shifted that paradigm big time and it became even a worse stigma.

Surely, the person has received such a privilege that he can retrieve many targets together, but it is very much needed for balance and patience.

It's always a pleasure to read your posts, makes us improve

Sometimes the things we consider blessings of opportunity becomes the weight of our journey which hinders us of becoming efficient.
We should have the wisdom in eliminating those good things that make us ineffective.

In this busy world , I personally believe that people are lacking effeciency because they lack mental peace. In older times people used to spend time with their families and be happy. In today's world we all are just running and going nowhere.

Good job! Mediocrity is fine, so long as you learn to live with it.

I spend a lots of time thinking about balance in life. I think the key is do what you love. If everybody in this world will do what he/she love, than he will be in balance. He will not work, he will spend his time doing, what he want...

Think about it. If you love your work, you will come to it with smile and you will looking forward on it.

If you love someone, you are enjoying every moment with him/her...

Key si love

It is preferable if we want to achieve greatness in something specific to focus our attention on that, accepting all our capabilities..

A machine efficiency can be easily computed, since machine works in principles of input-output where it is predictable.

In humans, it is somewhat unethical to do it that way.

Since humans can do more work at the same time compared to machines

In humans, efficiency plus value, plus unpredictable value comes into play.

An ordinary office worker may not be efficient in his daily task, but his loyalty and support can be more of use than machines who can do only 2 or 3 things.

It is true that focusing on one thing (mastering one skillset or aspect of your work) makes you an expert at that. In some jobs you need to do that, but even then, it is always good to have a broad range of knowledge in the field, so you know your basics well.

Anyways, I have many interests in the creative field and it is hard for me to focus on only one thing. I have many projects in mind that I would like to complete, that require me to learn a new skill or practice the ones I've already learned. Writing down the plan of actions and listing the time frame for the project helps me with that. Also, I realized that I can't do/make everything, and that I need to let go of some ideas, or at least keep them in my "ideas vault" for now, so I can concentrate on the stuff I'm currently working on.

This is the main problem with humans. They are often too easily distracted by the many things that they may find themselves capable of doing.

That line was quite deep and the nib for these thoughts of yours. I think the term of "efficiency" was better used for machines which are designed for specific tasks. The human nature is multi-dimensional and multi-tasking, our lives should tend much to being "EFFECTIVE" which goes beyond measuring just the output. The quality of our input parameters must also be put into consideration, thereby, we can create the BALANCE.

@chbartist what is efficiency or mind power, in my views according to laws of nature "right man for the right job" ever you think why train or a plan is efficient for journey because an enginer or scientist make it suitable for a particular thing. Feeling happy to read your views

@chbartisit
I´m with you. You need to focus on the things, that need to be done at a day.
So for me it helps me a lot in writing down a list with a pen and putting the list next to my keyboard. So from time to time I look on the list and wokr on the items noted on that list.
That is somehow stupid because I have all the fancy tools on my computer to organize my work. But a simple piece of paper for me does the best job.

Have a great day!

As an unmarried undergraduate, I taught it was very easy to continue with life trying different things at the same time and recording successes. Then, it was very easy ,as There was no much distraction that I was unable to control.
Presently, things were no more the same. The Job demands for attention, the Children demands for attention, The Wife demands for attention. The inner being demands for attention. Concentration becomes almost difficult. It is at this point I understand what life truly is.
We at this point struggle to be effective, efficient and reliable while trying to strike a balance between our Jobs, our families, our personal interests and every thing around us.
It is at this point the real struggle lies. The struggle of striking a balance.
Indeed, it had not been easy. But we are not going to give up the struggle.

@chbartist, We can see this subject in this way, No matter how many works we are doing at the end of the day we will going to think about the most important aspect for sure, we are available at one place at particular time so, we have to focus towards that one subject of action which will going to fulfill our dream goals step by step. Stay blessed.

Life is very much a balancing act, and we are always just a step away from a fall. We are constantly trying to move forward with our purpose, to achieve our goals, all the while trying to keep in balance the various elements of our lives.

If any aspect of our life draws a disproportionate amount of energy, we have to shortchange the other aspects. That throws us off—and we are unable to move forward on life’s tightrope until a balance can be reestablished. We have to deal with any areas that are taking too much energy and put them in perspective, align them, so that we have energy available for all areas.

It’s important to understand that others cannot do this for us. No one can think, breathe, feel, see, experience, love or die for us. It’s up to us to balance all the different aspects of our lives. We just have to decide to do it.

Thanks for the article! @chbartist

Only human can shift thier thinking compare to other animals

The balance is the equality of the two, 50 % workload, 50% efficiency.
Maybe any percentage will do as long as 100% is achieved?

No matter how hard we work in a variety of fields, there will come a time when we become efficient in a particular field.
Its like going to school for many years.
Even a genius has a particular thing that he's master of.

In the times of our grandparents, there were fewer distractions and they did things with more dedication, the things they did, despite not having technology to make things easier, were of quality. Currently, with the technology that can make work easier and easier, it is easier to get distracted because there are saturation of opportunities and modalities. Now procastrination is more frequent, and leaving things in the middle. That is why we must focus every day so as not to lose our way.

Ty chbartist. I need to have a more balanced life. I need to show this to my mom the most thou. She is a very hard worker but just needs to balanced stuff more. Because she is always doing working or doing something To try to take care of the bill, which seems so hard as a young individual

Yaa! @chbartist when we judge anyone's work we have to look at efficiency and productivity first. Becoz everyone has its own efficiency of doing.

@chbartisit it is important to set goals for longevity but sometimes going with the flow is the better option.

I struggled with this for a long time and actually spend almost a decade working at McDonalds because nothing felt worth the effort.

Last year that all changed and literally overnight I went from making a $7,000 salary to making $105,000 a year at an investment firm. I may have cheated my way up the ladder, but honestly I don't regret it.

Check out my story: https://steemit.com/life/@gary-newman/how-i-went-from-being-a-lifer-at-mcdonald-s-to-making-6-figures-at-an-investment-firm-overnight

Dear @chbartist
The responsibility to take charge is with those responsibilities that we are prepared physically and mentally to fulfill. When it comes to our mental efficiency and productivity, it becomes necessary that we will be able to utilize our capacity and in what field. Our work is more successful in the field in which we have enough experience and knowledge. When conditions are more favorable then our mind starts to feel distracted because we start doing the job properly but get distracted before reaching the goal. This is due to distraction in our work area. In this area, we need to balance.
Thank you

With balance, I think, comes organization. If you can prove to have an organized process for anything you undergo, you will find yourself much more efficient and successful at that task.
