Unfortunately few (if any) low-wage telecommute jobs are available in California because they don't want to pay the California Minimum wage or comply with our health insurance requirements.
Oh, I did not know that... When did that happen?
I'm not sure but I've looked into opportunities for the last 6 months and they are all in states with a minimum wage below $8/hr
These three I posted are $10 an hour and above..
They are, but CA minimum wage is $10.50 (up to $15 in some cities) and companies paying employees in California are responsible for health insurance, and California employment taxes on top of that.

About as shitty as it is everywhere else. Rent outpaces wages by more than 4X per year, gas is over $3 a gallon. Employers still pay minimum for work that requires years of education and experience.

Good information, the days of having one job are over for many, you have to be more creative with multiple incomes, while at home you can potential have more than one income stream, in an office you are just stuck earning one salary and usually not even free to answer your cell phone or browse the internet.
Working at home is the way to go. Plus, I am a FIRM believer in never putting all your eggs in one basket!

This is very helpful, thank you! Since moving to a farm in the middle of nowhere (lol), but with a strong Internet connection, I have been looking for ways to work from home. One idea I had, which may be of interest to people, is teaching English online. The best site I came across is called Italki
(https://www.italki.com). They accept qualified teachers and tutors (non-qualified) in a variety of different languages and teaching can be done through Skype.
Stong internet way out in the country sounds like a dream! How much do you charge for your services? Do you get to set your own price?
Yes, we are very lucky to have the Internet. It´s radioed out to us across the hills! Regarding Italki, I recommend that you sign up and look at the profiles of the existing teachers. From what I can see, they charge $15 + an hour and this increases as they build their student base. I found the following post helpful:

I'm not sure I understand, can you elaborate please?
There are also tags that have unclear connotations.
steemit - We would like to see this tag be reserved for posts that are relevant to the website steemit.com, or the company Steemit Inc. Unfortunately, some argue that “being on steemit.com means the tag is relevant”.
steem - Similar to above except there is a large difference from steem to steemit. Steem actually refers to the underlying cryptocurrency and blockchain, and actually, has nothing to do with the website.
