"I wrote a life experience hours ago but it never got picked up."
Here's some tips to make you less irritable whilst watching your post's votes stand still.
Tip Number One:
- Not every story you write is going to start trending
Not every story that you post right now is going to start trending, especially if you're not appealing to Steemit and its platform directly. This is mostly because Steemit users so far are mostly here to follow Steemit and not particularly your life stories. You can help this by promoting your story in other articles but try not to spam. Keep it relevant.
Tip Number Two:
- You don't have to crack a big pay out every time
Even if you don't make a killer post, money wise, that's okay. Your account is still gaining interest on both its Steem Based Dollars and its Steem Power. And even if you spend a week not making money on a single post, you're bound to make some sooner or later. Go back to the drawing board and try again.
Tip Number Three:
- Keep it simple, stupid
There are literally so many new users and posts being created at this point that it's hard to stand out in the bunch. This is why you see a lot more "simple" posts making big bucks. And that's okay. not all of us have time to read a short story.
As Steemit's user base and infrastructure grows, we'll see a much more diverse demographic that we can each appeal to with specific places for groups who're like-minded to hang out. I'm sure there will be a Steemit book club soon enough.
Tip Number Four:
- Don't stress out!
If your post is tanking and is no longer on the front page of any of Steemit's sub pages, don't stress, your time will come. Today I posted an excellent story about love and loss but that's made no money compared to a post that I made whilst drunk. I'm sure within due time there will be more support for older posts so even the good ones that have had their time in the spotlight (or haven't yet) will still be able to get picked up again and again.
Tip Number Five
- Go do something else
Steemit is addictive, but don't go forgetting that you have a real life too. After all, the community loves seeing photos of people in their natural habitat. Go out and take some of those photos, come back, and try again.
So those are my Top 5 Tips to remember when your posts aren't going anywhere.
I've been getting a lot of messages on my other social media accounts from people that I've sent to this site and I just wanted to make this for them. I understand it's hard not to feel a little torn up inside when your friends are making money and you're not, we understand.
Steemit is new and nothing right now is certain. When it comes to posts you really have to get lucky and hope that a few whales suck it in and pump it out their blow-holes. This can take a while.
For now, just:
Peace and Love
- Sensei
I gues the most frustration will simply be the result of comparing values with other posts and become jealously
It's easy to get blinded by all the $ signs floating around. We get hungry for that money.
At the same time, we have to get grounded and realize, we're sharing this system with tens of thousands of people. Some posts catch wind, some don't. Just keep doing what you do, and you'll get your turn to make good bucks just like everyone else.
We're still creating content that google is indexing and can find in their search engine. This brings more attention to steemit in the long term.
Right now, steem is what? Under $5? One day it will be worth, say $50
So while you might earn only 30 cents for a post today. That would be $3.00 in the future.
It's all relative. We just need to be calm, just like senseiteekay says..
I wager it won't be long until we hit that $50 mark. The user base is growing exponentially and people are flocking from everywhere. It's only a matter of time until the big fish of the financial sector come here. It'll be a bright day for us all when that happens.
I just found Steemit tonight. Mind Blown, I believe the $50 dollar mark.
Yes, yes. It's a fine, frustrating balance between keeping at it and driving yourself crazy. Great stuff!
Nice article. Steemers should just continue to write quality and original content and the reward eventually comes.
Indeed. Good comment. Thanks.
Hopefully we see some easy-to-navigate archives.
I want to add timing is very important, about 25% of current Steemit users are american, whilst the rest are scattered to different timezones, I made a post yesterday whch got 6 dollars in under a minute, I made a similar post today and only got 0.10 cents. Not at all complaining, the money is a bonus for me here :) but I just thought this is something people could benefit from hearing, try post during 9-5 est.
I also believe that timing is rather important at the moment as well. It's much like fishing for piranhas if you attract a few you attract more. If none are around... well. (not drawing from any piranha fishing experience)
I'm focusing on writing what comes from the heart, and what I think will be of value to the community. I learned from writing on other platforms that making oneself crazy about what's trending is self-destructive. Just share your passion. xo
Soooo you're saying I should drink more when I write... I can get behind that type of workflow :)
steem on @senseiteekay
Excellent work
Thanks man, good post.
Think the worst is how frustrating it is when you put your time and effort into posts and you get 2 up votes. Sometimes you wanna quit, but ill just keep swimming.
Thank you! These are good pieces of advice!
The problem is that people wanna keep up with someone else's posts .
You gotta stay on your lane until something happens.
#KeepCalmAndSteemit
While it's all top notch advice, steps 3 and 4 are spot on. Unless it's a crazy story I doubt anybody's gonna read a novel and regardless of the possibility of money , get a little variety in what you do. Granted, I feel the travelers are probably getting out and mixing it up a lot already.
Lmao... " When it comes to posts you really have to get lucky and hope that a few whales suck it in and pump it out their blow-holes." Well put @senseiteekay
I have been trying to figure out if there is a particular time of the day I should target my introduction post so that it at least gets seen let alone trends. I shall keep call and steem on :P
All these are great points to keep in mind. Honestly, I write just to write. It's fun, and makes me happy to just make something. It's just cool to share. Money will just be the by-product of sharing. Like it says "Keep Calm and Steem On".
Great post. Will keep in mind for my next post. Thanks.
Wise words from The Sensei
Haha thanks brother. You're not doing too bad yourself ;)
I noticed that aswell, simpler it is, bigger it hits, but it has not to be boring.
Thanks for sharing the Zen.
Nice information. Here is another post you and others may find interesting.
