Steemit Loan Update for 8/14 - Testing an example of using a steem account as loan collateral

in #money7 years ago

Second payment to loan contributors for loan collateralize by a steemit account.

This is the second distribution of STEEM to @mrwang's loan contribution. This is an evolution of a loan to help @mrwang fix his truck while allowing him to use his account as collateral with master key being held by @virtualgrowth during the time of the loan and sending loan payments from @mrwang's account from rewards of recent posts as a way to pay back a loan from author and curation rewards being earned from steem!

More information of this steemit loan may be found here: Steemit Loan Update for 7/29. Today we will be making the first loan payment back to the contributors.

Best,

Sort:

I've seen many generous and kind people since I've been on Steemit. To be honest, the proportion is way higher than in 'real life' - and that's gratifying to witness.

People put out a post asking for help and help arrives almost in the blink of an eye.

Money doesn't solve every problem we have in life, but this Steem Based Community is proving that while money is certainly not 'everything', generosity of spirit as well as pocket can go hand in hand to the benefit of everyone.

I dare say the community has a pretty high 'feelgood' factor when a solution to a problem is found.

I'm grateful to be a small part of such a community.

Well done on this project. Very well done!

I totally agree!
This Steemit community is so much better than the people in town or in the city. So many capable people helping people.

I've seen quite a lot of this wonderful state of mind on here. It really does remind me of a proper community - a tiny village where you can just drop in to borrow a cup of sugar and you return the sugar the following day along with a cake you baked with the sugar you borrowed.

Generosity breeds more generosity, it's like a virus. Once a few people have it, it's quick to spread.

Yes!
A great analogy!
I founded The Garden of Eden 8 years ago and we feed tens of thousands of free meals a year. I like to bread sustainable viruses of thrival!

Thank you very much @michelle.gent!

You're welcome. Thank you - I'm aware of probably only some of the wonderful things you're involved in, and I admire you for your generosity of spirit <3

Everyone is only aware of some of what I am involved in. That's part of the beauty of it. Thank you very much for the admiration of my generosity of spirit. ❤

You're very welcome.

Keep Steemit' on. <3

Haha! That's brilliant :)

Not seeing my loan on the list.

I'll look into it

Any luck?

Wow, this is really cool and exciting; watching the cryptocurrency world evolve the way it is! Thanks for sharing!

I love it, the beauty of the blockchain, all recorded, collateral is secured and payments executed easily... this concept is a cryptocurrency within itself, probably you can explore a whitepaper with this concept building of this Steemit Graphene base blockchain...this is golden

Thank you for your reply. Believe this is a "rough" proof of concept of some future possibility that may be better executed with smart contracts. Starting with humans that are likely to honor both sides of the transaction because of the relation of past and future STEEM and reputation which will be more positive after this opportunity is explored and executed. May have to make a post going more in depth about this sometime so people may better understand.

Thanks for organising this. Would be keen to take part in something like this again in the future!

Great post

Thanks for down-voting my last comment! Here's a better one - the loan is still based on trust and once you've given away your private key information you can never take it back. So you're left with either changing your key or having the giver of the loan have the keys to your account.

While this may not seem like a problem - there are times when even good people become desperate and do desperate things.

Are you going to trust someone with the keys to your account that was able to generate enough money to pay back the initial loan?

I wouldn't - but everybody has to decide these kinds of things for themselves.

When your reputation is 33 and trying to get people to trust you... you might have a problem. We are prime time members setting an example for everyone with non malicious intentions and possible solutions to problems in the future.

Prime time members? Hehehe... yeah. In the real world there is accountability that can be enforced by laws. The law works equally for the lender as it does the borrower.

Here there is no accountability and there is no recourse if something were to go awry with either party.

Trust is fine between friends and family but when it comes to business things are a little different.

I'm pretty sure the people involved in this transaction are above reproach, BUT, let's look at it another way.

The holder of the keys - and I'm betting the conversation on that went something like this:

"I insist you hold my key as surety that I'll make the repayments."
"I trust you Bro."
"Yeah, but have them anyway."

Why on earth would any of the key holders/keepers loan out a sum of money just for a possibility of stealing the account?

I think you're underestimating this community. If that happened, once word got out that theft had occurred, both the stolen account and the stealer account would be worthless, flagged to oblivion and no use to anyone because the ability to generate more Steem would be destroyed.

As I've said, this is more a community than it is a business.

@michelle.gent - I respect everybody's opinion on the matter and it might all go just fine.

But I think you're overestimating human nature and more so when they are on an 'anonymous' medium. You ever notice how the anonymity of the internet brings out the best in people - yeah - neither do I. You get wars over nothing because people don't have to deal with real life repercussions.

Don't kid yourself - this is not a community and everyone wants something from you because they have no idea who you are and will never really have to face you over it.

@cactii,

I'm not kidding myself.

This is a community.

So far, the only people that want something from me are 'Follow me', 'upvote me' and 'read my blog' - and the spam in my messages people trying to sell me resteems - but as they're actually giving me .001 steem every time they message me, I guess I'm on the right side of that transaction.

I'm more of a cynic and 'people-watcher' than an over-estimator of human nature and I'm on the cynical side of that group too, as it goes.

I've been here for a little under a year and there may be those people that try to scam others, but because this is a close community and we're all about communication, word soon gets around and believe it or believe it not, these are the kind of people who would say:

"You lost all your money because of that scam-artist? Right, we'll see about that!"

And the next thing you know, the scam-artist would be flagged to oblivion, the community would be warned about the scam and the artist and the unfortunate gullible person would have a fund-raising post either written on their behalf or resteemed to high heaven and their lost Steem would be - if not returned, then at least replaced.

Also, and I speak from experience here, 'anonymity' is never quite so anonymous as people think.

Don't get me wrong, just like @virtualgrowth, I'm not gonna loan you $1000 Steem either, but I dare say, if you asked the right person, with the right kind of business plan and recompense program, you'd get that 1k and more too if the business plan was sound.

...this is a community...

In the technical sense yes... but I doubt that everybody sees it as you do. Most people come here and only see free money.

nothing anonymous about me anymore... I'm pretty public cause of my job

So was Bernie Madoff.
