RE: Why the Steemwhales are upvoting Crap instead of Your Masterpiece - And why you should be Happy About it

in #motivational8 years ago (edited)

I wish I could figure out how to get a golf clap GIF for you, but apparently I suck, so I upvoted you instead.

You are, of course, completely right! But the world is a shitty and barren wasteland where dreams go to die and cockroaches thrive.

So there was this thing called Facemash. Facemash was pretty simple - a college guy created an algo that gave college girls a numerical rating based on their physical attractiveness. Don't know the details, but basically a boner was a 10 and it went down from there. You get the idea.

So Facemash represents everything you just threw up all over - sexist, unfair, immature, exploiting, full of creepy guys. They didn't even pay the girls. Assholes. And you know what happened?

Yeah. Facebook happened. Facebook being the largest and most successful social media platform on the planet. And it didn't happen because all the girls called Zuckerberg a creep and left for the moral high ground.

Facebook is a veritable Victorian cess pool of creeps, fat white dudes, sock puppets, stalking, scheming and general human awefulness. Personal note, I had to sign up for a Facebook account to get a Steemit account and I'm still pissed off about it. I don't do reddit either, and needed karma, which I couldn't get fast enough, so had to give Facebook my phone number. WTF?

Where was I? Oh right. You're right. But humans are greedy and shallow and crave attention and money like a crack addict craves crack. So you're wrong, too.

Excellent comment, and thank you for taking the time to get it all out. Probably one of the best lessons in life is that you can't change people. They are who they are and as much as you want them to be something else they never will be no matter how hard you try. Same deal with the human race. You need to work with both sides, know and accept them for what they are, and not judge. For the love of god, don't judge.

Zuck would probably give the chick in a bikini at the top of your post a 9, btw. Just sayin'.

So fecesbook blows and you're pissed that you had to sign up but steemit is going to turn into the new fecesbook and you're all psyched about it?

What about letting the greedy shallow humans keep playing on fecesbook and reddit and steering steemit in a direction that plucks the apples from the cesspool and provides them with the community and capital they need to develop projects that at least have some chance of making the world a better place?

So far, I haven't found your critical thinking skills or ethics to be very inspiring. You'll probably do really well here if the whales don't wake up and reverse course!

Fecesbook... awesome.

But I coudn't ride your train all the way to the station. I'm not advocating, I'm postulating.

You need to read the end of the OP again for the punch line. What I'm saying is that what you want is what is being done but because smart intellectual types don't generally do well running business they are confused and upset by how this business is being bootstrapped into an economy that can support smart intellectual types.

In time Steemit will probably become exactly what you and others like you envision. But it's crawl before you walk. What you're asking for is actually more like flying. So there's a lot of dirty, grimy, smelly work to do before we can put on the white gloves.

Again, you're contradicting yourself.

Crawling would be carefully curating to build the most intelligent, ethical, and innovative userbase slowly. Flying is trying to attract a billion dolts in a month.

You're probably a fucking robot anyway....

Biology is fun - you know what is thriving? Ants. Freaking ants are everywhere. They aren't particularly smart but man, somehow, they thrive and blanket the earth with their antness. There's like a billion of them born every month and they will probably never go extinct. You could almost say the ants have conquered the earth.

You know what is not thriving? Elephants. They are slow, they are smart and they are all stuck together in one little spot. You could probably say that elephants have not conquered the world and won't anytime soon.

Yes, this is a social media allegory involving ants and elephants.

If you want to bootstrap a new ecosystem, you breed ants. Not elephants. You get millions of ants in a few months but only one elephant after decades. I will be eating ant pancakes while you try desperately not to butcher a baby elephant.

Ants are kind of gross and creepy, elephants are majestic and awesome. But which one wins the evolutionary race?

No reply link on your ant post. Ants are pests and mess up huge areas of land because civilization destroys and domesticates their natural predators. Elephants are beautiful, create awesome soil, and set a great example as to how to live sustainably and peacefully as nomadic foragers and are only struggling because civilization creates sociopathy and psychopathy and rewards those traits. It would weigh less on my conscience if I killed a human than an elephant but I kill billions of ants a year, just so plants will grow. If you're excited about ant world, I genuinely hope that you are able to enjoy that world from inside a server sometime soon, before the ant people destroy everything.

Yeah, no reply link on your server post either. Weird. We must be overloading Steemit with the epic volume of excellent comments.

I'm right there with you. I have had this huge infestation of ants in my front lawn for years. Can't kill the bastards. They kill my grass and make a mess on the sidewalk. Ants are assholes. But they are successful assholes that keep growing no matter what sort of Home Depot horrors we bring to bear on their creepy little ant asses.

There's what we'd like the world to be and there's what the world is. Ants are thriving and elephants are... not. I'd be ecstatic if that was the other way around. So would my lawn.

I'm not worried about the ant people destroying everything and having to shack up in a server. They're all too busy getting rich by posting packing lists on Steemit. ;)

Great post, upvoted! You're a Step 2 kinda guy, and I respect that.

Why thank you. I'm not sure what question you answered, but it looks very helpful. And I like him. So I upvoted your post.

I answered your question, John Smith:

"I wish I could figure out how to get a golf clap GIF for you, but apparently I suck, so I upvoted you instead."

@JohnSmith... you said that you couldn't figure out hot to get a golf clap GIF. I was showing you how. : )

Make me a dolphin!!!!
