The UK government want most new cars to be electric by 2030. Does that seem realistic? At the moment they are just a percent or two, but I see more all the time. The Nissan Leaf seems to be the most common, but I see a few Teslas around. The main sticking points are range and price, but there are improvements ongoing for both of those. A usable range of 200 miles will meet the needs of most people. I know there are exceptions, but they are fairly rare. This video talks about these issues and gives an optimistic forecast of electric adoption. We're about to see a lot more choice in electric vehicles and they predict that some models could be cheaper than the equivalent petrol version soon. That could be the tipping point.
Even Jaguar is getting in on the game for those who want something chunky. I do like some of the Jaguar models, but I could never justify the cost and they are so against my green principles.
I know electric cars still cause pollution in manufacture, but our living environment will be better without them belching out pollutants as they drive around. Around half of the UK's power is coming from low carbon sources these days (wind, solar and nuclear). This site shows the breakdown in real time. Obviously no solar right now as it's dark out there.
We have to accept that we can't keep burning oil forever. Electric cars have come a long way since the old milk floats. Batteries are likely to improve and costs will fall as production scales up.
Maybe the future is bright.

Not one mention of the battery disposal, what a suprise. There was a huge leap of faith in battery technology advancement in the presentation and absolutely no mention of the raw materials needed to create these batteries, the huge energy required to mine said materials , battery cycles and the more electrical energy to charge them over time to battery degradation and multiple factors this video didn't take into consideration in their happy clapping electric vehicle video...
I am all for electric vehicles and cutting carbon emissions but Im yet to see satisfactory evidence for the battery disposal and recycling and the source of all this extra electrcity which worries me enormously.
Explain the costs f the EV supply chain and the relationship between electricity demand and the ability of renewables to support that huge rise.
Videos like this make the environmental movement look like idiots sadly. Presenting facts without reinforcement and accepting them at face value is folly and does nothing advance the cause.
I've heard some battery materials can be recycled. When they lose capacity they can be used for domestic storage. The fossil fuel industry haven't exactly got a glowing reputation. They spread disinformation about their products. You can't expect all the details in such a short video anyway. The environmental effects of our current trajectory are well understood
Of course the fossil fuel industry are lying, opaque scum. The environmental movement, to convince people needs to be absolutely transparent . We dont want to end up like the oil companies ! we want credibility for mass adoption to happen. I just don't like sound bites...it's me, Im cranky, but the battery issues are a worry when you think of the number of vehicles on the road at any one time, cars these days have made massive advances in their recyclability, I don't want to see a regression with the batteries thats all :-)
On top of that, he was very dismissive of hydrogen cells which is my great hope for the future. Cars running on water
Well he has his own commercial interests. Of course we need full transparency. Governments need to ensure it's not just about making money. If we keep on filling the roads then we're doomed whatever the cars run on.

I think it's certainly doable but it's definitely going to be a hard battle for adoption. If a country like Norway can promote the usage of electric cars by offering free charging stations on the side of the road and tax deductions as well as subsidization on certain EV cars to make them cheaper and more affordable then I don't see why the UK cannot. Sadly a lot of Norway's energy comes from fossil fuels so they're not totally in the clear, but I believe their model is a positive step in the right direction and that the UK could do something similar. We effectively subsidise petrol and diesel by not dealing with the pollution. Refining oil is a dirty and energy intensive process too. We need more efficient use of transport too as the roads will get clogged with whatever vehicles we use. It needs a holistic approach.
Having all electric cars on street is going to improve our health ( Human Health). The pollution in the cities is becoming terrible right now. Even in winter bike riding on road feel like bike riding in summer. It will be a relief for our longs. My government here is also having similar plan's of implementing all electric vehicles by 2030. I don't know if it is possible or not though.
Manufacturing of electric and internal combustion cars pollutes roughly equal, but the living environment will be FAR better with electric cars.
But I don't expect IC cars manufacturers will give up so easily. They still have some space for machine improvement and much more space in lowering the price.

I think it can be done but only if they manage to offer affordable cars, with good ranges and good design. So far model 3 from Tesla is a good example. Although is someone the price down to 20k it will certainly help with the adoption.
It's still a young market. It has a lot of catching up to do, but the big companies are rushing to get new models out now they know there is demand. Tesla helped with that
and i think so electric car may cause less pollution comparative to oil base cars
