A Dog's Way Home (film): Studios taking advantage of dog lovers again

in #movies5 years ago

Every couple of months or so there is a film that comes out of Hollywood that features cutesy or heartwarming portrayals of animals, mostly dogs, and people like myself have no choice but to watch them. Since it is on Netflix and I didn't pay for it at the theater I'm not gonna complain.

Based on a best-selling book, A Dog's Way Home is the story of "Bella" who was rescued from a construction site by some humans that had been coming by there to feed the stray cat population underneath a soon-to-be-demolished house. Bella's mother had been taken away by animal control when she was a baby and now she is being raised by "mama cat"

So Bella gets a new home with her human named Lucas, who is housing her illegally in his rented house. They show Bella's upbringing and everything is wonderful. They skipped the parts about how difficult it is to raise a puppy IE Bella never chewed up the couch cushions or crapped all over the floor.

When Lucas finally finds a new place to live that allows dogs, he asks a family member to look after Bella for a bit while he and his girlfriend move house and this is where the adventure begins. Bella escapes the yard of her temporary caregivers and remembers a command that Lucas taught her a long time ago ... "Go Home."

So thus begins a tale of adventure which is narrated by Bryce Dallas Howard whose voice you may recognize from Jurassic World. Bella is wandering through the mountainous forests of Colorado heading towards Denver, which is where she last lived with Lucas.

She struggles to find food, falls in with a doggy "street gang" only to discover they all actually have homes, gets taken in by a homeless Edward James Olmos (which is my favorite 3 minutes of the movie,) and returns the favor to "mama cat" by helping out a mountain lion who lost its own mother to hunters. Bella names this mountain lion "Big Kitten."

This is where the only gripe I have with this film comes in: The CGI on Big Kitten isn't very good. I'm gonna let it pass because i can't imagine how difficult it is to get a dog to pose in a certain way but now we have to get it to interact with a creature that isn't actually there? Yeah, i can see how that would be a bit tough :)

Basically, if you have a dog (or had one at some point in your life) you are going to find this movie endearing. It's more than a little impractical but it is endearing and i got misty-eyed on more than one occasion and when that happens, its normally a sign that the film is pretty good. I will admit that my affinity towards doggy-friends definitely influences my opinion.

I like these kinds of heart-warming movies with Dogs, they sometimes make me cry @gooddream :D

yeah, i think that is kind of the idea. I wouldn't mind seeing a "behind-the-scenes" of this one to see how difficult it was to get some of this stuff filmed.

I like this kind of movies very heart warming aww I want to watch that

well if you have netflix go ahead! :)

I can't say as though the plot is very original. I think it has been done about a million times with a million different species. I'd have to say my personal favorite is probably The Journey of Natt Gann. That's just some good cinema right there. Plus they have a young John Cusak, so that is awesome too. Oh, and a wolf! Anyway. Pretty much any movie with a dog is probably going to hold my attention even if the plot has been done a million times.
