New Techno Temple in Berlin to be Opened | OST | Located in former club Magdalena

in #music7 years ago

Berlin, the city of birth for the electronic music style Techno, at least in Europe counts several Techno Temples. In 1991 Tresor club was opened right at the border between west and east Berlin very close to the Potsdamer Platz. The club/floor was located in the vaults of an old department store. Since then this music genre came a long way, from the absolute underground to more or less mainstream today. Due to rebuilding of the site, Tresor had to relocate; Such a shame I must admit. But still Tresor is a statement, and well known in the scene throughout the whole world.

Since 1991 Berlin became home of more famous Techno clubs, such like Watergate and my absolute favourite: Berghain and Panorama Bar, 2 clubs in one monumental building with amazing programming!

Today I read in the news, Berlin will get another Techno club, a new owner of the previous Magdalena club will try to create a new temple of Techno. I really hope they succeed.

BERLIN’S NEWEST TECHNO TEMPLE WILL OPEN SOON

OST is a new club in a familiar location.

Berlin treats techno clubs like catholic countries treat churches. That is to say, it often feels like there’s one on every block. Despite this fact, it’s always an exciting occasion when a new space comes online.

Introducing “OST”, a new club in the clubbing zone near Ostkreuz station in Friedrichshain. Astute observers will recognize the building as being the former home of Magdalena, an ill-fated club that succumbed to insolvency issues and controversy last year. The building itself is a former power station originally built in 1903.

Fans of that venue knew it for its outstanding (and unique for Berlin) Pioneer Pro Audio sound system designed by legendary New York club sound guru Gary Stewart. As far as we can tell, this system will thankfully remain in place.

The club also boasts multiple dance floors, acoustic treating and a tastefully curated mixture of sounds and artists that includes just about everything you’d expect from a top-tier Berlin club.

The club will have a soft opening party on November 4 featuring Vakula, John Osborn and more.

Berlin keeps reinventing itself.

It is a fantastic City and I love it! And due to the little rules they have, clubs can stay open as long as they want, at least some of them like Berghain (their parties sometimes run till Tuesday morning without any break from Saturday night). Best times for parties is usually Sunday morning/afternoon when the true music fans are on the dance floor and the tourist and the wannabes in bed or doing other things.

In Amsterdam we getting better regulations as well for parties. De School is for instance a techno club Berghain style, with a permit to stay open 24hrs a day. This week during Amsterdam Dance Event they will also run far into next Monday before they close their doors.

I had no idea that Berlin is the birth for the electronic Techno music, at least in Europe like you said. That is pretty cool. And the new club looks amazing and really big.
I've been in Berlin for a couple of weeks but so many years ago, and really liked it, I can just imagine how nice it must be now. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, Berlin was well suited for Techno to be born in Europe. With the kinda dark atmosphere, the underground feel was there by nature. Like in Detroit were Techno roots are, with the Underground Resistance guys starting out the music genre in the 80s. In Germany, Frankfurt am Main was an early adopter of Techno with clubs like Omen and Dorian Gray.

I often say "each time someone sneezes, a new techno club opens in Berlin". I'm glad to hear that place will still be a club. The building itself is nice inside

Hahaha, Belin is quite dynamic indeed! :)
