What football? Al fresco music at the pub

in #music6 years ago (edited)

Last night the England team failed to make the World Cup final. Sad, but that's sport. There were lots of people in the pub, so our weekly music session moved to the garden. We sat under the big willow tree at The White Horse and played lots of songs.

Beer and guitar

The beer was Tribute. I have to say it was fairly unremarkable, but I just need something to keep my vocal cords lubricated. The guitar is my trusty Taylor, bought with Steem.

Instruments consisted of guitars, ukuleles, clarinets, recorders, piano (battery powered) and violin. Some great combinations in spontaneous collaborations. Some great voices too. I just love playing with these people.

Musicians

I felt I had to try Three Lions as it's been everywhere during the World Cup. At the end, after we knew the result, I did Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

If any musicians are near Arlesey on a Wednesday you are very welcome to join us. Our open mic is on the first Friday of each month.

Rock on and keep music live.

I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.

I'm not a big footy fan either, I follow it but was more interested in the tennis to be honest. I guess your fellow players really didn't care either?

Some were checking the score, but it's not a big thing for some. A couple of people stayed home to watch the match.

"At the end, after we knew the result, I did Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

I wish we'd had you on hand. We were basically weeping.

As it happens, I was lucky enough to hear Eric Idle perform this at the Albert hall once, and then, later, with the surviving members of Monty Python, at the O2 Arena.

My favourite line is "Always look on the bright side of death, just before you draw your terminal breath" and everything that follows immediately thereafter.

The idea that there is a bright side of death always cracks me up lol!

I've seen Eric do it live too at a TV show he did a couple of years back. He's written some great songs. I've played the Galaxy Song too.

Nice one. I'll bet that was a lot cheaper than the shows I saw lol!

The first one I saw was called "Not the Messiah," and it was basically a sung through version of "Life of Brian," accompanied by Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam. John Cleese was not there because he only shows up when he's offered the big money so he can pay off his palimony. At the end, Michael Palin sand "the Lumberjack Song." They put up the words for us to sing along, and my favourite verse was "I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers, I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars." You won't believe how funny it is to sing that with 5000 people.

Poor old Terry Jones has alzheimers now. I can't think for the life of me that there's a bright side to that, but if there is, I know that Terry Jones (and Eric Idle) could find it.

I didn't manage to see the Pythons live, but we did go to the cinema broadcast of their last show. I grew up watching them. Those guys have given us so many laughs

With all of the hype going on about the World Cup, I totally missed Wimbledon. I am kind of bummed about that. I used to watch it religiously when I was younger. I caught a little bit of the men's final yesterday, but didn't really have a connection to either player, so I changed the channel.

Glad you weren't all miserable. It's so much nicer than in Ince near where I live. They decided to have street brawls and throw bricks around. Each to their own I suppose.

People seemed to leave the pub peacefully. Of course they are disappointed, but it's not worth causing trouble over.

Absolutely. The Ince lot were probably enjoying the brawls and brick hurling. They just needed an excuse to get on it.

haha I hope your 'always look on the bright side of life' cheered up the footie fans!

You did well prioritizing the music instead of the football match...
Sorry for this, but this time Croatia deserved to win 😬

That's how it should be. I'm just happy people didn't have to go through the agony of penalties.

Whom are you supporting for the finals ?

I guess Croatia and the underdogs, so good luck to them

Mark my words ..Croatia will pull the match to extra time like last match 😁

i was sad because England didn't make it to the Finals.
After watching their plays i thought that's okay they were so good and trying but the oponent was strong that time so let's rest and forget about the bet i put on England ;(
You enjoyed well @steevc
Stay blessed
