Ok yeah interesting. There are a bunch of ways to integrate modular and to approach using it for composition and recording.
I do have a Midi to CV converter that I've used in the past with it so that I can compose in Ableton but use modular sounds.
There's also the approach to use it for sound design and sample individual sounds for use in the DAW.
But what I'm working on is capturing some of the essence of my live sets which are completely improvised. They dont' easily translate to releasable tracks for a bunch of reasons - like your friend they are often long 60 minute sets and the evolve over time with slow builds as sudden changes are difficult live on the modular.
So I'm looking at some kind of hybrid where I capture the individual voices/tracks from the live sets and then use those as material for a produced track. I did for the first time manage to capture 4 of the main parts from last night's set separately so I'll have a go with those and see if this workflow is successful.
But yes it's definitely fun and wonderful and the possibilities are endless!
Keep me posted if you find out any more about the workflow's of your modular friends and thanks so much for commenting!
I do hope you'll come up with some you like with the recorded channels.
Thanks so much! I have some extra time this January so hoping to do a lot of recording!
