This one have something to do with "societal norms".
Husbands as the male species, are expected by society to be the stronger and the dominant one. Husbands then need to show to society that they can control their woman if they wish to do so. Over time, this have been adapted by the previous generation to the next that it is now at most considered normal in most countries.
