I think once we get past the initial shock/disdain that this split apparently has caused plenty of folks, we will be able to see whether or not it was a good idea, and whatever benefits there may be.
WALLET
From what I've been reading, having a separate wallet is a good thing. It can be on its own, more secure, and those behind it can concentrate on the wallet functions without worrying about it compromising what used to be the social side. And vice versa.
SOCIAL
We're told that with the two split, the social side of Steemit can improve and expand without worrying about what would happen to the wallet. Things that weren't possible from a security standpoint now are. I appreciate the fact that wallet security is priority number one. I'd rather my stake be protected.
ADS
As of right now, I'm not considering the first steps or two that Steemit Inc has made with regards to the dApp a good thing. The ads are now everywhere you go, at least from a desktop view. They say they are in an experiment mode. Well, hopefully it won't take long to realize that they don't need more than one or two targeted ads and move on.
COMMUNITIES
This feature is supposedly more possible now that the two ends have been split. I have not read anything regarding a timetable for this, but I'm sure it will follow all of the other things they're attempting to do under the hood for cost saving purposes. So, who knows when that might be, but the possibility of it happening is closer than ever.
