The age of my child at the time this was an issue (too young =abstinence)
The maturity of my child and the partner (not mature enough = abstinence)
the length of the relationship (one week? Forget about it)
If I believed my child and their partner were ready to handle everything that comes with and after sex, I would certainly advice using protection rather than abstaining
People are going to have sex. That's a simple fact of humankind, No one can remain abstinent forever, so you might as well prepare them to it in as safe a manner as possible.
Well any good, responsible and God fearing person will advise his child not to engage in pre- marital sex until he or she gets married.
A good parents will advise his child of the danger of premarital sex, alot of young folks have been infected with different sexual diseases due to premarital sex.
Though using condoms are always advisable to people but we are talking about parents and their relationship with their children and not doctors or medical advice which are two separate issues.
Medical advice is that you use condoms when having sex with someone you are not married to but no good parents will want their children doing such until they are married.
My answer would vary depending on various factors

The maturity of my child and the partner (not mature enough = abstinence)
the length of the relationship (one week? Forget about it)
