THE LAST OF THE ICING ON THE CAKE

in #nature7 years ago

I knew that it wouldn't last, and it was melting fast.

Recently, on a trip up to Springfield, MO to attend an Eagle Days event we noticed the last of one of the "frozen waterfall" natural icicle sculptures on the side of the road. It was dripping rapidly, but it was still there.

I love stuff like this anyway, and enjoy being able to stop and stand there in awe just marveling at it, but now that I have all of you to share it with, it makes the experience all the more worthwhile. These ice "sculptures" form from small mounts of water trickling down the rock edges. In cold weather, they freeze and the ice builds up, leaving behind these formations.

This one was melting away during a warm day, and it was much smaller when we passed back through later in the day. Enjoy the photos!

A MELTING MOUNTAIN

We enjoyed the trip!

Have never seen anything like this before @papa-pepper, looks exactly as the frosting on a cake

Well it is good to come out of the winter blues. Here in New York we are still deep into winter.

Really magical images showing how creative nature in all her elements can be. We have so much to learn from her.

I've never seen such ice beauty, as our winter is very short and not cold enough for snow. You and all your friends in snow lands are so fortunate @papa-pepper. Resteemed. 🦋

This is such a beautiful sight. Would love to experience nature at it's best one day. I love nature. It has a way of appealing to humans. It doesn't struggle, it just happens. This is lovely and thank you for this.

Certainly I wouldn’t want to stand directly below this frozen waterfall.
The pictures are amazing, there is nothing better that the beauty of nature.

If it fell, it would crush. I tried not to stand to close either.

Impresionante lo que hace el clima... Fotos muy nítidas...

What a eye catching sight, it pleases me to see this wonderful phenomenon. Thanks @papa-pepper

It is crazy how it slowly freezes making unique ice formations. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, our snow is gone for the moment

Many of us are wishing for snow here in the Philippines! :)
Thank you for sharing this @papa-pepper! :)

Is that off hwy 60?

I lived in Springfield, MO for 24 years! Great to see your photos...taking me back!

These melting ice sculptures look so sad...They were spectacular earlier. Nice that you could take photos all through their cycle.

That’s a COOL metaphor!
Neat looking pics

This happens to us in the rockies quite often. I should get some pics in the spring. Makes me think of icing

Amazing. Just amazing!

Beautiful place, I like your post.

This has its own kind of charm. Telling us spring is coming. Yay.

Great pictures..

wow! it never gets cold enough here for that to happen (thankfully). I'd hate to think how cold it would need to be for a waterfall to freeze.

Mind you, in Wellington the wind would just blow it away anyway ;-)

I love this so amazing

Great shots, @papa-pepper! I would guess that these will disappear within a few days from now :)
