Bill Russell
#1 Changed how the sport was played... fast breaks, blocking into teammates hands, faster pace, defense wins championships. Won probably never-broken 11 championships, 5 more than MJ, 6 more than Kobe.
#2 Black Coach in a tough era. Was first major sports black coach, AND won championship while coaching. Took a LOT of flack in Boston.
#3 Champion of his teammates.
#4 Hated Boston fans, just like we do! (kidding, or are we?)
#5 Did it all while the NBA world was busy hating-on black athletes, and it took decades for anyone to respect him. Bill Simmons did a LOT to bring the guy back to focus and proper historical prespective.

and we second the motion for Tim Duncan, if you don't pick Russell that is.
