RE: How to sew a half circle skirt out of panels

in #needleworkmonday7 years ago (edited)

Thank you 😍😍
Of course I would love to help you out.
Fortunately these pockets are not difficult to add since they are just sewn on the skirt
and also I know you wouldn't like a hectic sewing technique

So for the first pocket, cut it out exactly how you drew it in that picture only bigger depending on how big you want your pockets to be , leaving half an inch of allowance for folding
cut both together so they are exactly the same size
sew the folded parts of the pockets
Fold your skirt into half from the waist to the hem then measure about 3" from the waist (since you said you wear your skirt below your navel)
Mark it with a chalk lightly, that's where your front pockets will start from
place it at least 3" away from the joining of the skirt on either side and sew it on the skirt. Making sure they are both straight.
That's for the first pocket!
Its the same for the second pockets only this time we start exactly from the waist
Then use the measurement of the skirt to determine the size and add half inch allowance for folding
Also this pocket has to be sewn on before you can join the front and back sides of the skirts and add the band...
I really hope you understand what I wrote
If you're willing and you use WhatsApp I could send you a video recording there (I'm not still good with Dtube from my phone and I cant use my laptop because my laptop has some issues.
I also got you some tutorials from YouTube:
The front pocket is explained by Melanie Ham

The second pocket is a hip pocket is explained well by Colleen

Do let me know which ever way☺

But the skirt with pockets has to wait until I am back, but than I will pluck up courage and follow your lead :-D
Thank you so much for the videos and explanations, this is hugely helpful!Woooowwww....I think the second one looks similar to the pattern I want to try (but did not dare) But it is still intimidating. I found this pattern online (but it is too expensive right now) which has this kind of pocket. ( https://megannielsen.com/products/brumby-skirt-sewing-pattern) But perhaps it is better if I begin with the first version, which seems to be easier and was also recommanded by @mtnmeadowmomma.

Its alright, I'm glad that you are satisfied ☺have fun sewing the pocket and do show us how it turns out
