I had a super interesting conversation with economist/professor Steven Payson about the shortcomings of what's being taught in economics classes currently. His critique was only partially political but heavily based on some of the paradigms that have developed in the world of economics academia.
As I was doing the interview, I couldn't help by wonder whether there are ways in which the Steem blockchain and its associated platforms, whether it's @utopian-io or others might be able to improve the way in which economics is taught and research...maybe too ambitious? What do people think?

Steem can be a useful topic in comparing our current economics with something more decentralized, less emotional mistakes and more basic building blocks.
I think our platform, especially, can offer the world of economics a great deal of fresh air. Being woven through a social media form, our site really offers a new paradigm in this world. Thus, I think that economists all over the world would gain from studying our site.
Thanks for sharing and giving us the opportunity to share on the matter.
Namaste :)
Steemit, in my opinion, allows the monetization of one's social media presence. And the good part is this monetization completely within the control of the user. So instead of being but a serf on fiefdoms of the likes of Facebook or Twitter, you earn from your own effort.
I agree wholeheartedly, it really is an innovative technology that allows us to circulate our content to a wider audience and no need to get a "government copyright" which gives ownership away. All the information can be traced back to it's original post...
Hi
" I couldn't help by wonder whether there are ways in which the Steem blockchain and its associated platforms, whether it's @utopian-io or others might be able to improve the way in which economics is taught and research"
I couldnt ignore this part because i also sat down and thought about that.
I must say the feeling is mutual.
Have been doing some research lately but havent got a satisfied results.
Nice article.
As someone who has taken economics on both graduate and undergraduate levels I totally agree with you guys. The information is outdated that they teach and not very relevant to today's markets. There's much more to economics that bell curves and trying to quantify everything.
This is a really interesting proposal... I think Steem, and other cryptocurrencies, could be a great source of information. Especially in the future. In my opinion: one of the reasons cryptocurrency is so successful is because we are the generation of instantaneous gratification. The stock market is too slow for our taste and it runs our patience. At least it does mine lol. Cryptocurrency is going to be the future, and I think that it is something that needs to be addressed in Economics courses. Good stuff!
Whatever we may try, we are all bound by the pareto principle. It's not just an economic law, it's a law of nature. Any attempts at eradicating it is foolishness.
Totally agree with you @cryptoctopus
I have made it for you .hope you ll enjoy it and let me know how it is here is the link

we have to take into account that this is relatively new, many people do not trust this type of websites and people like us are to give it credibility. steemit is not only a sutio of information but it rewards its users. this became a new digital age.
I think that the growth in the community allows for it to get into diverse space.
Quite recently, a relation has been found to how crytocurrencies help fight climate change. This simply shows how we can always break new ground on any area we choose on steemit.
The advantage of crytocurrencies is that lack of control (political control) and that is a strong advantage we have here on steemit.
The absence of these control here allows for more objectivity and people can always teach stuff.
Those who even want to appear anonymous can easily send in their lessons through an economic broadcast account.
Let's say @trueeconomics 😁
But we'll do better with objectivity, facts and truth right here on steemit.
Very interesting video, thanks for upload :)
I couldn't agree more. I am currently in undergraduate school and have seen the dated topics first hand. I will say, my professor did his best at providing the information the department required and some of the things he thought fundamental. I really do hope that we could see a change in this and I think Steemit may acomplish that.
Amazing post. Though I'm just a new steemian. Wouldn't mind if your next post talks about enlightenment to the newbies of the system so as to make the system captivating for us. #Anticipating
Macroeconomics is not a science, macroeconomics will never be solved. Check out Hayek's Pretense Of Knowledge speech when he received the Nobel prize in Econ.
It is fascinating what you can learn when you really care about something.
I don't know if it's my net connection, but I am having a helluva time with the Dtube uploader. Anyone else have trouble uploading?
Yes, I think it may just solve ALL problems of economics.
We need more free market economics and less socialism.
In what ways do we currently have "socialism?"
Government is pretty much socialism so we have more socialism than "socialist" countries like France.
I'd maybe do a little research and rethink that
Whoops. I guess we're only around 35% socialist. I thought it was higher. We might hit 50% though in another decade or two.

I guess just our taxes are higher.

Is there a problem ❓
Like :D it's very intresting :D
Economica generally has to do with finance though I didn't study economics in high school, I chose geography over it, but I believe if we take steem block chain as a means of investment and not just a money pool, it would go a long way to Stabilize the finances of individuals , organizations etc. My humble opinion
I'm not saying that the Steemit dev team doesn't have a large role to play in developing the main functionality for the site - but one thing that would really help is if we got a big push from all the community developers that have been developing their own stand-alone websites and apps, to start working on pull requests to Steemit.com.
I think so..
I hope it does. Time will definitely tell
Interesting ;) Going to resteem
Good short interview but i was a little bummed that Steemit wasn't actually discussed at all. I was hoping to have his take on Steemit and the broader Steem economy.
Well, as someone who very much dislikes mental wanking (postmodernism in philosophy makes me wanna reach for my gun), if you are doing real research, no matter how theoretical, then you are still OK in my book.
earths flat? I know seas level :D
You just like hitting nails on the heads @davidpackman
Nice post, very fitting to the times ahead.
We all know change is coming and time to let people using brain power to triangulate energy come up with new strategy's and build more sturdier foundations to be educated in or on for that matter.
tomorrows world full of big changes.
excelente
Interesting thought, and I'd like to hear some of your ideas. The one idea I can think of would be to have academic papers upvoted/downvoted by the profession much like steemit posts are. You'd have big name academics as the "whales" and everyone else with voting power according to their academic reputation, which hopefully would correlate with their steem voting power. Papers of high quality and of value to society would be recognized by the amount of steem and upvotes rewarded.
This process would be more democratic and transparent than the current academic journal caste system, and therefore more robust to highlighting the most important research.
I think the best way to teach is through a mix of entertainment, communication and discussion.
We all come from different places and have experienced different types of scolarisation and education. But I'm sure we can all agree that the more interested we are, the better we remember.
Steemit mixes the forum side of things with the blockchain system. There has to be a way steem or one of its children can come in handy with your issue. Sadly i dont have the answers. Just more questions and some crazy ideas.
The more people know about steemit the more steemit grow, the more people invest
The more people profit from it
Sometimes some of them might have been in the ivory tower for long possibly having failed to understand a hard basic fact that the reality is dynamic and ever changing.....Some of them might have thought too high of themselves....
So those arrogant in the ivory tower, sorry for being too blunt, to me, are rhetoric rather than pragmatic...
Steem is the best buying the shit out of it to hodl, thank you davidpakman
These are bold and sublime =)
nice conversation, but it will be difficult to "fix" the problem of economics using Steemit. Maybe time will tell...let's wait for 2030!
Wow thats a very interesting post i realliy like it and i think that the steemit can fix de economics, anyone thinks like i think?
The Steemit blockchain could provide better real-world data to economists so that they can challenge their field's assumptions. You get both people's actions and what they say about their actions in comments.
I was disappointed that the topic didn't come up in your discussion... honestly that's why I watched the video, so 90% of this went over my math hating brain.

Let me take a nap... great idea, anyway.
Would be great if some economists start to research into how a decentralised economic reward platform like Steemit can impact any form of content creation, freelance tasks and ecommerce and the potential for a much larger group of global citizens to participate in economic activity and store their earnings without unnecessary intermediaries like government agencies and banks. We are definitely at the cusp of a massive revolution. More of us have to first understand what it means to be a 'sovereign individual'. After this stage of enlightenment, participation in the cryptoeconomy will take off!
STEEM can so help the economy, the only challenge is that so many people are yet to believe in it.
nice ! and more importantly informative.

Absolutely, in merely the fact that Steemit - as a platform- can put money in your pocket. The talking heads in governments(corporations) and banks talk "economics" yet their version is warped and twisted. The only way you build a strong economy is for the people IN the economic arena (ie: us) to have money to spend within the arena. Everything else is just whitewash. So by that factor, by using a platform that rewards a person for using it and sharing their energy through it... you are building a stronger economy
