My first reaction was:
But then I realized it makes sense. Cops are called for what is likely an active shooter situation. They don't know that the perp has been subdued, they're going to assume the first guy they see with a gun is the suspect.
In that respect, it makes perfect sense. I'm just thankful they didn't kill the kid. In hindsight, one they subdued him, maybe holstering the pistol or knocking it out of his reach while five or six people sit on the perp might have been the better outcome.
Regardless, I wouldn't have heard about it if you guys hadn't written about it. Why isn't this making the news?
Don't know if they asked him to drop the gun, and put his hands up or lay on the ground or whatever or just shot him. The last would be a stupid thing.
In an active shooter situation, it only takes a matter of seconds to turn a gun at someone and shoot them. Cops are going to shoot first, ask questions later. If they don't shoot first, they'll be the ones shot.
Ok but let's say it was not the cops, but another armed human being. Can that human being also say: I thought, I shoot first and ask questions later. Do you think he get's away with that.
You can take cover.... ask questions or demands.
It's easy to say things like that until you're in the heat of the moment. You don't have time to think, instinct takes over. You think, you die. Simple as that.
You may not have cover to work with. You may be in the middle of the room. Cops aren't going to have all the information about the situation, all they know is that someone has a gun and they need to neutralize that threat.
Also, your argument about other people shooting first and asking questions later is invalid to the topic at hand. They're not barging into the building to neutralize the threat. I'm talking about what the police see, not what everyone else sees. Please don't try and derail the conversation again.
Yes cops get very scared and handle on their insticts.
