Just to point out that the kind of development you describe as impossible without government may not be ideal in the first place. Thinking outside of the box that is.

I'm afraid right now we are living within systems where we are overworking [mostly to make others rich], funding pharma with our taxes whilst our health goes ever downward as a population due to the poisonous effects of allopathic medicines, killing our selves and our world with pollution, fighting wars all over the globe ... and all in the name of the kind of 'progress' you are describing.
When I watched your video I thought "Yep! He is right. This system won't work that way." Then I thought "Hell, this system isn't the one I want!"

I've heard it described as the first Post Apocalyptic sci-fi book of a genre.
It deals in quite an interesting and insightful way with the fall of society and the regrowth of it.
