I've heard it described as the first Post Apocalyptic sci-fi book of a genre.
It deals in quite an interesting and insightful way with the fall of society and the regrowth of it.
Interesting read.Ever read "Earth Abides" by George R Stewart: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Abides
