BREAKING NEWS: Dakota Access Protesters Win Bid to Stop Pipeline from Being Built Across the Missouri River

in #news8 years ago (edited)

The Dakota Access Pipeline will not go ahead at the Standing Rock Indian reservation, it was announced Sunday.

Cheyenne river Sioux Tribal Council chairman Harold Frazier told DailyMail.com that he was 'shocked' by the news, which he'd received from Jo-Ellen Darcy, United States Assistant Secretary of the Army.

The camp erupted into cheers as the news spread that the US Army Corps of engineers would not enforce an easement that would have allowed a pipeline to run under Lake Oahe, potentially affecting the tribe's drinking water and infringing on land rights.

However, the Army Corps will be doing an environmental impact study to look at possible alternate routes. Which could lead to another face off between protesters and law enforcement in the next year. My guess is they will look at building it north of Bismarck but that will still affect the drinking water of Standing Rock Indians. Maybe they'd look at completing going around North of the Missouri River but that would still go through some environmental sensitive areas. Either way this will cost the Pipeline Company and the big Banks that funded it 100s of millions more dollars.

Thousands of Protesters and Veterans showed up Saturday Night and Sunday to Protest the Police and eviction notice but looks like it will be a big celebration instead.

Yup, I wonder if it had anything to do with the veterans group getting involved. Left and Right leaning groups getting together is a dangerous thing for the status quo.
