to deal with superintelligent AI
...........................................................................................................................................................................
It’s the year 2021. A quadriplegic patient has just had one million “neural lace” microparticles injected into her brain — becoming the world’s first human with a wireless implanted brain-mind interface and empowering her as the first superhuman cyborg. …
No, this is not a science-fiction movie plot. It’s the actual first public step — just four years from now — in Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s business plan for his latest new venture, Neuralink. It’s now explained for the first time on Tim Urban’s WaitButWhy blog.
The Article discusses
- Dealing with the superintelligence existential risk
- Becoming one with AI — a good thing?
- “Just an engineering problem”

My Opinion
I'm not convinced that human level AI is possible anytime soon. I'm even less convinced that super-normal AI is possible at ALL.
But just because I see no compelling evidence doesn't mean it can't happen.
I am convinced that the mind/machine interface can be improved. I've seen it in my lifetime. First there was physically rewiring the computer in order to program it. Then there was programming via such things as paper tape, punched cards and the like. Eventually it advanced to the Keyboard and the CommandLine Interface.
Notice any improvements since then?
Direct Neural interface both invasive and inductive is happening now. Like the last bullet point indicated. It's merely an engineering problem.
Such things as neural lace and other forms of direct neural interfacing is worth doing in their own right. If it saves us from being conquered by an AI...that's just icing on the cake.

Seems like a very nice way for governments and corporations to control people. Not to mention as soon as one person enters the work force with this everyone else is inferior, leading to mass adoption or else you get left out of the work force. Similar to professional athletes and performance enhancing drugs. As soon as one person starts doing it, other athletes feel required to in order to compete. In my onion the direction of technology these days is terrifying. The government can already control people through non invasive methods what happens when there is an invasive technology interfaced through your brain. Say goodbye to the words "revolt".
Perhaps you should get a different Onion.
I hear Vidalias are very good.
I will probably switch to leeks instead. Onions are so last century.
Since they've been working on ERASING memories an issue here comes from such an interface being able to do essentially the opposite of that. As with any tool they can be used for benevolent and malevolent purposes. If the government is involved it always eventually seems to go down the malevolent path. War and better weapons. Control and manipulate the population. How easy would it be to control the population when you can erase memories and replace them with custom designed ones.
Not a problem.
You don't have to take advantage of the new tech.
My problem is not with you and I. My problem is with other people could do with it against us against our will.
that's been the problem all along hasn't it? Starting with...oh...say...fire? It's ok for me and use fire...we're of the same tribe..but those other guys are too irresponsible..why they might set the world alight..
Oh I KNOW..we can let the government control the technology. How's that been working out for us?
Curious. Where can I find info about "erasing memories" as you say? I have speculated that this would be possible via playing certain frequencies inaudible to the human ear (perhaps through a device we all carry around and use everyday) but I haven't really researched about it.
There was a discussion about this on steemit a month or two ago.
