Hei :)

MIT has developed an intelligence called Shelley that is able to write horror stories rather scary.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is working extensively on artificial intelligence, applying the latter to several areas, such as image, to name but one. In September, MIT also announced its collaboration with IBM through a joint research laboratory on artificial intelligence. The goal of the MIT-IBM Watson AI Las laboratory will be to jointly evolve their mutual knowledge of AI in order to grow its key areas. Major issue of MIT, the institute however found an application to AI rather entertaining and perfectly topical: the writing of horror stories. Perfect to celebrate Halloween.

By the name of Shelley, artificial intelligence owes its pseudonym to the author of Mary Shelley, author of the famous Frankenstein. Its purpose is simple: to create stories and stories that are scary. To do so, she intervenes on Twitter every hour to post a new story. Moreover, it can be helped by users of the social network, who can directly interact with it to reinforce the horror of the stories. One of the project's researchers, Pinar Yanardhag says, "[Shelley] first trained on over 140,000 horror stories on the popular Reddit website, and is able to generate random snippets based on what she learned, or continue a story with a text. We expect Shelley to inspire people to write the weirdest and scariest horror stories ever." Shelley made her hand with the NoSleep section of Reddit, on which many horror stories are posted daily. And indeed, the result is ... scary.

Hi @redouanemez
Thanks for filling out our story.
It is indeed intriguing what AI as capable of. Personally I think Shelley is one of the most creative uses of AI so far and proves that this technology possibly can build on and contribute on our collective effort to tell stories and create myths. And storytelling and myths are possibly the one thing that's unique to the human mind? ;)

Yes that's correct !
Gustave Flaubert said: "It is necessary above all, in a narration, to be dramatic, always to paint or to move, and never to release"

(I continued the story):
They said it took an hour or so, but eventually I came to. I was dripping wet from my own sweat. The last thing I remember before it all went black is that I entered the cinema for the second time that night. I was going to see the second screening of Star Wars - The Last Jedi. Even though I had seen it once already, it turned out the suspense was still too much for me to handle.

it looks like you are a good writer with a strong imagination :)

Thank you sir

You are welcome Sir

Artificial intelligence kind of scares me, at what point does it decide it is superior to humans? Kind of like in the movie the Terminator were Skynet takes over. I know it sounds far-fetched, but it is something we should all think about and keep an eye on.

Hi @tbnfl4sun
Interesting question, where is that line?
All computers today are better than most of us in math, but they do seem to have trouble understanding quite simple phrases like "The man with the scythe", a synonym for the grim reaper in Norwegian.
They can crunch wast amounts of numbers, but we still beat them in creativity.
But for how long?

I think some of the very rich people are working on downloading their brains into a computer.
That may give the computer a competitive advantage when it comes to learning about emotions
and feelings.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technology, just like electricity or the Internet. You must not be afraid of it yourself. It depends on what you do with it. I think we need to move away from science-fiction visions, from the concept of "singularity" - when artificial intelligence would surpass human intelligence and engender exponential and unpredictable technological progress - and from the rebellion of AI against their creators.

I don't think that I will be around long enough for this to be a problem for me,but definitely for my children and grandchildren.

Oh yes okay ! for small children I can agree with you.

This is really cool, the concept of AI can be used to so many things. Its like @redouanemez said.

I dont know if you have seen the movie Big Hero 6, but it tells a nice story of an AI developed to take care of your health. This is a posetive way of useing AI.

But we also have the Department of Defence who use AI in military hardware, so they can better take care off us if something happens, to put it in their words.

Hi @meldesixym
Nope, not seen that movie, but will do. :)
Here is one that's not that nice:

Make sure to see the last 30 seconds...
It's only a matter of time...

I share a good youtube video that explains a little bit what artificial intelligence is:

Hi @redouanemez
Thanks for sharing. (Sharing is caring you know... )
Interesting video. Since 1955 is a long time. It has exploded in the mainstream the last few years only, one can only speculate on what's going on in the "black ops. labs" these days.

Thank you, I had the same remark on the video :)
in the end, artificial intelligence remains a vast world that many people are unaware of its effects and uses in our day.

Intresting and scary

The emerging technology of artificial intelligence, or AI, crosses several techniques simulating human cognitive processes. Existing since the 1960s, research has recently developed to the point of multiplying applications: autonomous cars, medical diagnostics, personal assistants, algorithmic finance, industrial robots, video games ... The explosion of computing power of machines shifted the IA in the 2010s from a classic sci-fi to a reality closer and closer, become a major scientific issue. Deep-learning, algorithms of neural networks or quantum computers: hopes for transhumanists, so many fears for many high-tech figures - including Stephen Hawking, Bill Gates or Elon Musk - who point out the ethical risks of an AI made too autonomous or conscious, and the fragile balance of benefits and risks on employment.

Hi @lovework
Yes, it's something we should think thru this a community. Do we really want to take this path?
It's always been a bit of controversy when new tech is deployed, like color television and radio. (who would read books if could see the stories)

But this time it's different?
AI could do the same to humans as the steam engine did to the horses 120 years ago. ;)

The goal of this operation would be to familiarize the public with artificial intelligence and study the ability of an I.A to arouse emotion in humans.

Hi @lovework
That's an interesting point of view. How will we react?
Personally I feel quite uneasy when I see whats going on in this video for example:

We humans tend to project our empathy and emotions onto our surroundings.
