games with a crypto element are sure to rocket :)
I think the text based game is so much more open to possibilities in a way, but for larger scale adoption likely a gui will be neccessary.

True, text is limit in one main sense - food for the eyes. While it can be more imaginatively stimulating it's a very rare game that comes out these days that is solely text based. Still I have a huge soft spot for them, having grown up on several.
I have serious trouble imagining a text based game "working" in the sense of successfully simulating objects, but also as you say gaining wide traction. Still, it's an interesting thing to consider. =)
yes, it's probably just a fantasy of former, simpler times, when text games were all we had, and they were fun :)
Leisure Suit Larry changed the world back in the '80s.
Hahaha, leisure suit Larry, huh? Had no idea he was such the innovator
First text game I knew about for computers.
Hmm, pretty sure it wasn't text anymore when I played, but very crude graphics
I suppose it depends on where we draw the line for "text based". My own original understanding was that it would have to be all text. But as it seems, a text based game can include a level of graphics as well.
