A mere 2 kilometers from here in birdflight trajectory, a derelict and abandoned military sanitarium rests in a small forest. Originally opened 82 years ago, in 1938, it was a spectacular event for Nõmme district and the whole Estonian military, as we received the most modern facility for tuberculosis treatment in the whole country.
VIPs were present. Our president at the time, Konstantin Päts and Commander‑in‑Chief of the Estonian Armed Forces - General Johan Laidoner were even present.

The non-profit Eesti Filmi Andmebaas (Estonian Movie Database) even has a short 53-second clip of the 80-year-old event, you can view it on Youtube as well - you can see Laidoner and Päts arriving, along with some other bigwigs:
More amazing than this facility, is the fact that I found about it just recently, when I read about recent detail plans submitted for the restructuring of the area and the building into a private residential area.
Of course, these things take time, nothing will happen overnight, but the chances to visit these historic buildings is diminishing with every week.
I managed to grab a few photos from the area. Large warning signs about video surveillance are present, along with "Entry prohibidabado" signs. Internal excursions will have to wait. For now...

See punane on vana Kivimäe haigla ja on mul ka siin kodu lähedal ja sissepääsemise kohad täitsa olemas, aga räägitakse, et seal on sees liikumisandurid, mis häiret annavad. Väljas kaameraid ei paista.
Kõrval on üks teine Kivimäe haigla üksuse hoone, seal on liikuvad kaamerad iga nurga peal ja puha, krt kuhu me niimoodi jõuame. Just eile käisin seal kõrval jalutamas, otse metsast oleks hea hopsti sisse luusima minna, aga üks kaamera keerab ära, teine keerab samal ajal naksti peale just.

Ma ükskord sattusin isegi jalutama Nõmmele ühe netituttavaga, kes seal muusikakeskkoolis vms käis. Ta viis mind ka mingi mahajäetud maja juurde näitamiseks ja viipas veel, et kusagil teisel pool väikest metsatukka on veel mahajäetud maju. Rääkis mingist mahajäetud tuberkuloosihaiglast?
