FAMILY OF FIVE \ ORIGINAL POEM
father said all men
weren't good enough for me.
queen of mean
teenage dream
ripped at the seam.
They all
beeline
for the
canteen
to behold
bold strokes
on the
bathroom
wall.
queen of disaster
secret session broadcaster.
inspired
the beast
in me.
he said he only wanted the best in me.
an accidental
dustpan
for his future plans.
before she cried.
before he died.
they folded.
crying a river
washing them all away
don't you remember?
don't you remember,
what I used to say?
born on the hottest day of the summer,
who told you I wasn't a hurricane?
my daddy turned out to be just a man,
and couldn't stay on my god-forsaken land.
swept out to sea,
because he couldn't see
how
two plus two
could equal five
my father and mother became a love equation
for the math, they did and didn't do.
when home became a tune
I sang at the moon;
a long song I can sing
soon.
when two plus two equals five
and all you can witness is four
I want you to know that I feel the most at home,
when I am absolutely alone.
My father is a sailor
swept out to sea.
There was never anyone
good enough for me.
Just two that were great.
