No, I found out about bitshares through Steem, but looked into it, liked what I read about its potential and invested in it. I averaged down for a bit, but thanks to the altcoin boom, it is now my second largest crypto holding, behind bitcoin. I like the idea of the possibilities of stable crypto and what it could do in enabling more commercial rather than just speculative use.

When it hit about 40 cents I regret not changing at least half into bitusd even during the recent huge correction bitusd held the peg! Now that's amazing!

Hindsight is great, isn't? I too have regrets there. I bought some HERO, but not as many as I should. The thinking goes, why sell at 40 cents if you think it is going to $1. I am now diversifying my portfolio with larger portions of stable crypto as prices increase. Little by little is my strategy for risk management. That way, if I sell a small portion at 15 cents and it goes to 30 cents, I'll still be happy knowing I have locked in some profit, but still have exposure to future price rises.
