The Old Dog Announces: My New Crypto Debit Card Has Arrived Just in Time For My Steemcation!

in #offramp7 years ago (edited)

We all need off ramps for our digital currencies! For the first time I'll be transferring some of my "hard earned" (actually it's been lot's of fun) SBD to my new debit card and using it for my upcoming vacation! A Steemcation! What a Blast!

Disclaimer: If you check my third ever post I did withdraw some SBD at a Bitcoin machine and bought some drinks for my family just to prove that all of this was real! Please see: Can an Old (Entrepreneurial) Dog Learn New Crypto Tricks? Part Three

Why Did I Pick The Advanced Cash Debit Card?

  • They came highly recommended by a very crypto experienced  and technically skilled Steemit member!
  • They offer cash loading in either Euro or U.S. dollars. I need Euro!
  • It can be used to withdraw cash from any MasterCard-enabled ATM and for shopping with any merchant that supports MasterCard.
  • For verified card holder's the limits are extremely high! $100,000 per day, $250,000 per month and $10,000 per transaction. You can also transfer up to $999,000 to other Advanced Cash Card Holders per day and month with a $99,999 per transaction limit! I can't ever imagine needing those limits. One can however dream!

What Are The Fees Like?

  • First of all the card cost me only 4.99 EUR and it arrived in about a week! They said within 8 weeks on FAQ's
  • To withdraw funds in either U.S. dollars or EUR the fee is 1.99
  • Purchases in U.S. dollars or EUR are free of charge.

When Am I Going to Use The Card?

It arrived today but my vacation starts in a few weeks so I'll wait a while and hopefully the price of SBD will go up a bit. There are different funding options but SBD and Steem are not among them so I'll have to trade to Bitcoin and then to SBD.

Would You Like to See How The Card Arrived?

I thought so!

Here are the front and the back of the envelope:

Nice and discreet! Just as it should be!

This is what was inside the envelope:

It only took me a few moments to activate the card and I'm good to go!

So What's Next?

  • In the next little while I'll be loading the card with some SBD
  • I'll use that money on my upcoming vacation! My Steemcation!
  • I'll write a review of the card in action!

What About You?

  • Do you have a debit card for your digital currencies?
  • Have you been spending any of your Steem?
  • Are you looking for an off ramp solution?

I hope that you enjoyed this article about how "My New Crypto Debit Card Has Arrived Just in Time For My Steemcation!"

Until next time,

Congratulations!

I would be very interested in hearing a report of your experience were you to try a small test load from SBD to Bitcoin, then to your card and withdraw as cash fiat at a local ATM.

Would you give us a description of that experience in the near future? (it might even be a good idea to test it out before you want to use this card on your upcoming vacation).

I definitely have the same thought too, looking forward to seeing this experience as well, if it is possible. Namaste :)

I'll write a review in the next few days!

I'm looking forward for a post that would tell us where and how you could use it
could you use it for shopping?
do you have one with BTC?
I wish you luck
I know someone who has a debt card they loaded with btc and still not managed to use it
reason - it's not accredited anywhere here
I hope this is not the case with you
I wish you and the bird a happy vaca!

Thanks a lot I'll let you know soon. It should be valid everywhere MasterCard or Maestro is accepted. Let's see!

Yes I will do a small test but please don't refer to it as a vacation. It's a Steemcation! 100% financed by blogging! Go Steem go!

Where i can apply for an card for bitcoins?

I have a wirex/ecoin but the limits are really bad and they have a £2 fee. You can't transfer it to other holders so it is pretty shit. I should have looked into other options and I most likely will look into this, thank you for the post!

It is only good for US dollars and Euro. You can withdraw in other funds but then there is a% charge.

Exciting times ahead, Old Dog.....looks like you widening the path to crypto spending... should be interesting to see where / how this ends up...

Thank you for sharing this invaluable knowledge that empowers us all. May you have a wonderful Steem vacation, looking forward to seeing the results of it on here soon too... Namaste :)

I'll keep you posted!

i got almost 5 sbd in my wallet and I would spend on that card but it won't click "register" ... re-try later... but do you know does it deliver to Egypt?

There is a list of counties on their web site. Go through it, read the FAQ's and look for the best solution. Here's a nice upvote to add to your SBD's!

Will go now to see...Thank you sir!! that is very generous of you!! This good energy I will give back one of this days :)))

Congratulations, but Adv Cash is not a credit card?

Thanks for sharing my friend. Upvoted :)

No it's a debit card. You need to load it with cash!

I have one! different brand but suspiciously similar. I hope you enjoy spending some of that well earned dollar on your vacation!

Thanks a lot! It would be good to have a resource where members could clearly see the different options. You once bought an effects peddle with your earnings, correct?

I did, I have actually bought quite a lot with it. All using my card. It's a fabulous thing!

Excellent!

I'll be interested to see how you like actually using it. Mrs. Denmarkguy and I are planning a trip back to Denmark next summer, and it would be nice to have a reliable card to use over there, that I can load with some of my cryptos. Interesting to note it came from Gibraltar... it's one of those interesting "below the radar" financial havens.

It would be nice for you to be able to use such a card on your trip. I'll soon be writing a review as to how the card worked. I'm not very tech savvy so I need to plod along. I am persistent though!

Looks like a nice convenient way spending cryptocurrency. I’ll be sure to share this link around a bit since I know some people I’ve been talking to where looking for a solution like this.

I still need to try it out before I promote it but that is iminent!

Only down side I can see is they don’t want deal with those of us who live in America. At least from there FAQ that what it sounds like even though it’s a master card so I don’t see why that matters much.

Just going have go the ‘The Wolf of Wall Street” route one day. Hire me Swedish female who smuggles my cryptocurrency into Sweden and puts it into a Swedish bank!

This is amazing as I know nothing about these cards and we dont work in Euro or dollar what now.

You're in Australia right? You could use this card and withdraw your funds in Aussie currency but you would be a small percentage for the exchange. I withdrew 50 Swiss Francs from an ATM in Switzerland yesterday and it cost me about a Euro xtra. Most likely you can find a card that works well for you there. Why not psot an articel about it and see if any suggestions come along?

If in Australia you could use Coinjar Swipe. It is EFTPOS only, so no good for online purchases, but I have been buying groceries with it for months now. It makes my play Monopoly money really feel real.

If you load with bitcoin there is no fee (other than spread) and 1% otherwise.

OH, you got here before me. Good for you!

Also, check out Living Room of Satoshi for paying bills through BPAY. Thanks to lobbying by #teamaustralia, they now accept Steem directly, so no need to convert to bitcoin first.

I have Credit card but not for cryptocurrencies, in reality i didn't about this and the possibilty to own one
I didn't spend any steem til now but i'm just a new entry in this world
Enjoy your holidays!!
May the steem be with you!!

I really liked your article @kus-knee ! I hope that we in Ukraine will also have this opportunity! Travel with me and watch the video about Ukraine!
https://steemit.com/lovefriday/@olga.maslievich/american-director-urged-the-whole-world-to-go-on-a-tour-to-ukraine-an-exciting-video-about-ukraine-with-love-for-lovefriday

I haven't checked if the Ukraine is on the list but the countries where it is available is huge. Nice pic btw!

This is awesome! Congrats! And have a great Steemcation!

Gratz on your card! CryptoWorld!

Thanks a lot big bro for sharing all this valuable information and your personal experience. I never have thought of a prepaid cryto debit card just before joining steemit last December.

I don't have such card yet but want one!
I am not spending my steem or SBD as I am all powering up.
Yes, off ramp solutions such as this example becoming more and more popular.

Enjoy your vacation to the full extent brother, you very well deserve it.

Thanks so much! You re doing well to power up for the time being! I am sue that there will be even better off ramp solutions in the future. It would be good to know the best option for user in Canada.

Yes brother, utility, lower fees, safety is getting better and better by the day.

Mister @kus-knee, this is excellent timing! I'm planning on getting a debit card for my crypto's in the next months, and I was wondering which one to pick. I was leaning towards Wirex before this, but I'm going to check out your link for this card aswell :-)

WOW! Congratulations @kus-knee for getting such a high-tech looking advanced card 👌 🤝 🎊 🎉 ! With this it looks like you have slightly solidified your Steem to make it more liquid for some tangible use. Happy Steemcationing to you 👍!

No, no, no are my answers to all three of your questions raised here. I don't have any such card as it's not being issued in my country India yet, nor do I have any Steem to spend to. And yes, I ain't even looking for such an off ramp solution. 😎 😎 😎

However, I ain't sure to my answer to the last question. Perhaps I dunno much about this 😱🤔. Why should I keep my crypto-currencies in the form of a fiat currency to load onto this cards🤔? I'd have probably loved a solution where card could also act as some wallet to store the digital currency and instantaneously convert them to fiat at the time of payment. Otherwise, I can as well use the debit cards issued by my bank against my savings account. Just like you load this card with BTC, I need to sale those BTC and withdraw (or load) it to my account. And that I can use it with my debit card or a virtual card.

I guess what these cards do is automatize the conversion of BTC to EUR and load it to the card. But I'd like to be in control of where (in which exchange) this transaction is taking place. Am I missing something here? 🤔

I only hope that it won't be too long that these cards would start accepting Steem directly, saving the step to convert it to BTC. And hopefully there would soon be a time when we won't necessarily need to convert any cryptos into fiat. I'm looking forward to that time ...when I won't need to stand in the ATM queue with my crypto-card 💰 💳! I don't want my cryptos to be converted to fiat but they should be accepted as they are.

Until such time, you would definitely need such cards for your steemcations 🤑. I'd prefer to save my cryptos till they get widely acceptable as cryptos only. No liquid, just Steem! 😊

🎹 🥁 🎷 🎺 🎸 🎻 I’m trying to use a lot of emojis here to Celebrate the World Emoji Day this week. Are you? 🎊 🎉 🎉 🎉⛄️

You are doing well to save and accumulate. There is a a wallet to spend Steem directly through Blockpay but it is not yet widespread. Please see posts by @kencode for more info!

Thanks a lot for pointing me to this awesome project 🙂! I wish with their ever increasing features and global ambassadors it gets a widespread market reach. I hope they would soon settle the issues with you-know-who to impart more speed and energy to the team. Keenly following the developments at their Telegram Group. 🚶 🏃‍😎 🤓 👁 👀

Yes, the project was well on it's way before the recent problems. I have their wallet on my smart phone and I purchased a beer in Munich using Steem last October. I hope that it will move ahead despite the recent obstacles!

🎹 🥁 🎷 🎺 🎸 🎻 I’m trying to use a lot of emojis here to Celebrate the World Emoji Day this week. Are you? 🎊 🎉 🎉 🎉⛄️

This is freaking awesome!! not that I would ever need one because I doubt I will ever grow my account to the point a card would be viable..

That said having something like this that you can load with SDB and use in ATMs is possibly the best possible advertizing for steemit and steem as a whole, when people see you directly paying for things with a card loaded with SBD they know its legit and I bet a whole load of new people will join after seeing people get cold hard cash:)

You'll get there one comment and one post at a time!

Thanks for the encouragement kus-knee -seems like such a mammoth task but I think the key is to enjoy the site for the great forum that it is and have no expectations for financial incentive, steemit is such an interesting site that has me reading things I would never have seen on the other forums I visit!. only ten days old here but really enjoying the experience so far:)

You're right. Just keep interacting and having fun and being helpful. The rewards will come as a natural consequence.

I got a Bitpay card. It has a $25,000 not being a big shot (like some people, ahem) I'm a ways off from needing a $100,000 limit. The fees are reasonable ($2.00 USD). It also has the $10,000 per transaction... the great part is that even an idiot (yours truly)can use it!!!

So great to hear about this. Did @papa-pepper teach you about it. I'd love to have a Bitpay card but it's for US citizens only at this point. How about writing an article about it?

Ok... I'll write one tomorrow. I'm working on part 2 of the Night Gods chapter right now. I write everything with pen and paper then edit it when I transcribe it on the comp. Actually my friend @stevescoins walked me through the process on steem.chat when I applied. I had to open a Bittrex account first.

Very intersting. You are a credit to your age bracket!

My age bracket!!! I have no age bracket... I'm just a young guy that's been alive for a really long time! Some famous writer once said: "If you didn't Know how old you are, how old would you be?"

I had no idea there was such a thing as a debit card for crypto. This makes me curious so I'll have to look into the advancedcash debit card. I'm just a month old on steemit but I have made a few small withdrawls, not nearly enough to fund vacation.

Well I've been at this for 14 months you'll get there if you're consistent. All the best!!!!

Thank you for the advice, all the best to you as well my friend.

Wow! Those are some nice limits!

I've been using a ShiftCard tied to my coinbase wallet for some months now, but it has a $1000 per day limit. Enjoy your STEEMcation, I just got back from mine!

Actually you inspired me when I first read about using your ShiftCard. $1000 per day! Even a spoiled old dog like me could get by EASILY on that! A homesteader like you would have NOOO problem!

All kidding aside you're a real inspiration to so many on this platform and I am so so happy for you and your family that you have had so much success. Hard work and being a genuinely good and nice person is a winning formula!

I should have had my Bitwala card by now, but they had 'technical issues'. I've been assured its on the way now. Then I can spend my SBD. I've played with Changelly and Blocktrades to convert to Bitcoin on the card. I'll use whatever has the best rate at the time. I hope to be able to start spending soon.

That's exciting news. Let us know how it goes.

Enjoy your Steem Fueled Vacation!
So cool. Great to see all your success.
SteemON!

Thanks mighty Quinn! it's great to have you here and share this space with the altruistic folks at the garden!

Yea!
Maybe one of your steam vacations will bring us together one day!
Wish you the best on your adventures. Keep up posted!
Hey are you going to SteemFEst?

It would be easy enough to get there from where I am but right now I've got no definite plans. Most of me wants to but my shy stay in the background part wants to view you from afar! :)

hahahahaha yes I understand and respect that. No pressure. Whatever feels best for you of course!
I will just enjoy our nice little online interactions from afar ;-)>
SteemON!

The card sounds like a good option! I have a BitPay card but there is a small fee to use it, still it's better than using Coinbase. Enjoy your vacation! I can think of no better way to spend cryptocurrency!

Thanks a lot. It will be a first for me traveling on crypto!

It's such a freeing feeling! I've done a couple of crypto funded trips.

This is so cool! Thanks for sharing. Do they work with other currencies as well or just USD and EUR? I have been looking for a convenient way to transfer money from steemit to the real world. This sounds like a very good way to do it. I wonder if you can transfer cash directly to a regular bank account though. Thanks for sharing! Voted!

Check out the FAQ's at the site for more info.

Thanks I will :)

Nice. I have a Advcash virtual debit card and use it for USD and EUR denominated online purchases.

I also use a CoinJar EFTPOS card for physical purchases in my own local currency (AUD). I am waiting for a crypto card in AUD. So far, most are USD, EUR or GBP and have a 3% foreign exchange fee, which has turned me off.

I presume the 3% goes to Visa/Mastercard, which is all the more reason to try to encourage vendor to directly accept crypto. Would make everything cheaper and easier.

Sounds great. We need solutions for all countries. For more info on spending directly with crypto check out the Blockpay project updated regularly by @kencode.

I am following Blockpay closely (and hold tokens). I am waiting for it to be ready for me to easily add it as a payment option on my vending machines.

Yes well there has been tons of turmoil lately with the subsequent setbacks. Let's hope that the troubles are behind @kencode now. Are you an original Angelshares BitShares guy?

No, I found out about bitshares through Steem, but looked into it, liked what I read about its potential and invested in it. I averaged down for a bit, but thanks to the altcoin boom, it is now my second largest crypto holding, behind bitcoin. I like the idea of the possibilities of stable crypto and what it could do in enabling more commercial rather than just speculative use.

When it hit about 40 cents I regret not changing at least half into bitusd even during the recent huge correction bitusd held the peg! Now that's amazing!

Hindsight is great, isn't? I too have regrets there. I bought some HERO, but not as many as I should. The thinking goes, why sell at 40 cents if you think it is going to $1. I am now diversifying my portfolio with larger portions of stable crypto as prices increase. Little by little is my strategy for risk management. That way, if I sell a small portion at 15 cents and it goes to 30 cents, I'll still be happy knowing I have locked in some profit, but still have exposure to future price rises.

This looks nice! I have been mulling over a credit card for crypto. Someone I know got the bitpay card and it works great.

Can you load SBD or STEEM directly to this? Or do you need to convert into BTC and send the BTC to this?

Thanks :)

I will need to go from SBD to Bitcoin and then the card.

It is cool serivce, after how many days did you receive your card? I live in India, so can I get it here?

It took one week to arrive. Check the FAQ page to see if it is available in India.

@kus-knee Way to go! It is so cool that you will be able to use your SBD via the card and pay in USD or Euro on your vacation. That definitely is the thing I look forward to. You are right - this proves it that it is all real and not just some virtual crypto thing. Obviously, it will be along time before I will have any significant SBDs to be worth it for me to have a crypto debit card but I will keep trying and get there someday. Thank you for your detailed post. Inspired me. Upvoted.

Update at my end is that I am doing a 'Photospeak' series with my memories from Africa - with just a photo with minimal words - Letting the picture speak for itself mostly. I would be honored if you can take a look at Photospeak #1: Man vs. Nature and Photospeak #2: African landscape when you have time and provide your valuable comments. Thanks

You'll get there I'm sure!

Advcash is great but they never verified my account do you know how can i do it? they always refuse my DNI image because of low quality i sent many with better quality and they always refuse it. do you know how can i do it?

It also took me a few attempts because of quality. I went with a PDF file and it worked.

Thanks. I will try it

This is a good information for us living in the euro-zone since it's harder to convert any crypto in to "more" usable money!

Congratulations!
I am new in crypto trading and learning about the currencies. I don't have a debit card yet because I never needed it before. I would love to have one in future. And it always feels good to know about something new and useful. So, thank you for sharing it with us.

This almost looks to good to be true. I've heard from others they never received their cards, or have other issues with them; There cards are from other suppliers. I'll be looking in getting a card myself. Is it possible to get the Advanced Cash card without registration, I mean address yes, but without ID?

I certainly! look forward to a followup post from you after using this on your Steemcation! When all good, this card for sure is one to consider!

Enjoy your Vacation/Steemcation!

You don't have to verify but then the limits are MUCH lower. Check the FAQ's

Will do for sure!!! thanks for your post, it gives me one more debit card to look at! I really like it when traditional world is opened for the cryptoworld in easy manner, and debit cards are one of those tools. This is a step into the direction of mass acceptance of crypto currencies and services.

If you find any more good alternatives please let us know.

@ cryptodan mentioned this in one of this posts: "There is also Mycelium, Plutus, Monaco, TokenCard. I would go with the TenX Card, it seems like they are the furthest in the development atm and their crowdsale showed that they are very popular"

Congratulations
I need one of those cards
So I will order one too

Wish you good luck

I"ll let you know how it goes!

  • I have no debit card for cryptocurrencies YET! But I would like one. It would be more comfortable, than exchanging.
  • Yes, I've been spending Steem and SBD. Recently I used Changelly and then Blocktrades + Anycoin to get my money I need for my traveling and other costs. Firstly I used PayPal as well but soon realized it was not worth it. I would like a better solution, where I no need to exchange to Bitcoin and then Euro.
  • Yes, of course! Especially if it is simpler and no high exchange fees.

It's good to read that you've had some success with off ramps!

Oh cool! I need such a card too :-) No SBD at the moment, but who knows what happens in the next months.
My solution now is... send to Bittrex... change to BTC or ETH... send to Coinbase... send to bank... withdraw cash... drink a cup of Joe ;-)

Hey @steemitri, a cool guy like you should never have to pay for drinks!

Thank you for the information. The fee seems reasonable. I'm brand new to the crypto world and trying to learn all I can and now you have given an answer to one of the questions that was plaguing me for the last few hours. I appreciate the info keep up the good work

Steemit is the perfect place to learn and earn!

Very interesting! I consider to get a debit card for cryptocurrencies, but still don´t know, which one is trustworthy...
Maybe you can post about your experiences with this card later on?

I will post again. A card needs to be selected based on your location and the currency that you will be spending.

We love our Wirex card. It sounds very similar.

Thanks for mentioning this. It would be good to have a resource page so that all members could see their options. I will check the Wirex option.

Congratulations @kus-knee!

Thanks for the recognition!

Thanks for the share. I am also looking for the best card visa/mastercard that works well with cryptocurrency.

By the way, what exchanger would you use to fund this card? Just wanted to know because I have no idea which one is better.

I use blocktrades.us it's excellent!

how hard is it to load steem on the card, i have been struggling with the turning crypto into cash and i am new to the whole system , it is extremely time consuming and i am looking for a card that makes is easy, i would need USD , is there any kind of time lag between transfer to availabilituy

There are various services that will transfer between currencies if you specify the destination wallet. I've used Blocktrades before to get SBD to a Bitcoin card. It went through in about 20 minutes I think

i am just a little nervous about the whole thing, its not fear of the currency or the fluctuations its fear of my lack of ability so navigate the digital world effectively and not loose my ass, somebody needs to start a service where i can just give them my cash and let them set up and maintain and educate me. kinda like a digital stock broker.

You do need to be careful. Get a complicated Bitcoin address wrong and you can lose your money. I heard of someone who got some malware that would change a Bitcoin address in the clipboard so you sent it to their account. Scary stuff. I'm sure someone will take your money to provide such a service, but the joy of crypto is that you shouldn't need them.

i am just chomping at the bit to get started and am not confident enough in my knowledge to jump in.

Thanks for helping out!

Where are you located? If you're in the USA many members use Bitpay. I selected this card becasue I'm in the Eurozone. When transferring Bitcoin it can take up more than half an hour to get the confirmations. I also use blocktrade.us to go from SBD or Steem to Bitcoin.

im in the semi UNITED STATES hahhaha, so i might check on that card.

let us know how it goes!

I need to get one these crypto debit card, seems very interesting. It will be very helpful in my daily routine life, if i have to withdraw cash from any ATM or to pay for stuffs. Thanks for sharing mate.

You really need to research a card based on your location. This one is good for US dollars and Euro.

I have yet to cash in my Steem. I have been on here for just a few weeks and as you mentioned in your disclaimer, I'm still wondering if it's real. I hope you are having a great vacation.

It is real, it is innovative, it is cutting edge technology and you are here at the beginning! Cool! My vacation starts in one week so I'm just putting the details together now. Thanks for coming!

hi can you guide a lil bit more as i am totally new to this
i have earned like 1 steem
you are saying that there is a debit card which i can order and use my steem directly ?

Not right now. Steem to Bitcoin and Bitcoin to US dollars or Euro.

this seems to be one of the best payment options you can get now.
yes there are some fees but you dont need to exchange fiart money for fiat money where you also pay some % for service.
I think this is a good option, (at least the most comfortable for crypto) and you will have fun with it

Have you already tried this service?

Awesome, I really enjoy hearing about what people are doing with their steem. Some people are upgrading their equipment, buying sports cars and others, steemcation!

It's great to see the efforts of steemians are having a positive effect on their lives.

I'm still in the building phase of my account. I don't plan on withdrawing anything for at least a few months, but I will be buying one of these visa/MC cards so I am prepared.

Enjoy the trip!

Thanks a lot and keep building!

WOW! This is magnificent @kus-knee!

Congratulations on both your #steemcation & crypto debit card!

Thank you very much for sharing. I've been keeping my eye out for a trustworthy option and will be heading over to advanced cash as well.

Bright Blessings & Reiki Love! Namaste

Thanks so much for your thoughts and blessings!!

You are very welcome my friend! Have a great day! :)

That's so cool. I'll have to get a card like this in the future when I'm a whale hehe :D I've successfully withdrew 65 euros yesterday and it's in my bank account now to prove my friends that this is real as well ! :P

Good for you! Did you write a post about it?

Nah I didn't. Don't think anyone would really care :D

Sure they would. This place is full of crypto newbies!

Haha I guess. Maybe I'll actually write about it tomorrow :)
