Staying on Track
The backing track I added to last week's song seemed well-received (thanks to everyone who suggested I do it!) so I've gone the same route this week, composing drums and synth elements to back up my live piano part. It's a lot of fun mixing pre-composed and live performed elements in this way, and - to give credit where credit is due - I couldn't do it without the amazing piece of technology that is Ableton Live. I won't go into exceedingly nerdy detail, so suffice it to say that no other DAW makes it so easy to do so much before, during, and after a live performance than Ableton. If you're not using it, I HIGHLY recommend you check it out. There's a new version coming out soon.

Sweet. Came together nicely this week. You definitely have a particular sound going on with this one, reminds me of something more in the adult contemporary side of things or background for TV etc. (Hopefully that comes across as more of a compliment lol.)

I see it as the theme song for a Rom-Com of two lovers that are meant to be together but one is always tied up in a relationship but then... Okay, maybe I got carried away a bit. Don't mind me. I'll just sit down and applaud. ;)
You're not wrong, that's at least partially what I was thinking about. Also how big things in life always seem to happen at the wrong time, either before you're ready for them or well after you hoped they would...
Whoah... really great song. This totally throws me back to the 80's, in a really good way. The vocals, the gated reverby snare, the mathy sounding synths in the background... or a little more modern-day, I'm also hearing echoes of Postal Service or some of the more ballady MGMT (both bands I love). Really inspiring. I've been thinking of doing backing tracks to some of my entries, this video shows that it can work beautifully. Your vocals are dead on and all the instrumental elements come together nicely to support them.

Thanks :) I like to do as much of a song myself as I can, so I've learned to play most of the instruments you don't blow into with at least some proficiency.
Ha! I hear you, brother... I do the same but on a much lower level than yourself... and yeah, I couldn't fathom tackling the "wind" instruments! :-)
