Anybody who has been following me for long enough knows that I have a special hatred in my heard for MLMs. They don't just rip you off, but make you truly believe that they can lift you out of desperate circumstances, and empower you to achieve a better life...only to leave you buried in unsellable product, even deeper in debt.
Now these unscrupulous snakes are trying to profit off both hurricane Harvey and the Oregon/Washington wildfire. This is totally legal, because some small percentage does go to charity, but they can take up to like 90% of it for themselves without being upfront about it.
LuLaRoe is a name familiar to anybody who fights MLMs as one of the really widespread, nasty ones. Arbonne, seen below taking donations to send protein shakes(???) to hurricane victims is a new one on me though:
Now these shitheels are at it again, collecting donations for victims of the wildfire that those poor people will only ever see a small fraction of. Don't give these crooks so much as a dime! Save your money for legitimate charities like the ones listed here!
Even distributors are trying to cash in on the common man's altruism. Somehow making it out as if buying product from them (which they are desperate to sell, and I'm sure you know why by now) will help the afflicted. This is what MLMs turn normally decent people into, by putting them in an even deeper financial hole that they have to do scummy things to get out of.
Don't let these brainwashed drones and their sociopathic, exploitative puppetmasters take advantage of your good will! Pay close attention to who you're sending donations to! Once again, here are some resources for anybody looking to open their wallets in support of those afflicted by the disaster.

I'm glad you're talking about this. Man, I didn't even think about how this would be going on. I just can't stand capitalism. I have too many friends who participate in these things. Everybody's desperate to escape poverty, but we don't live in a world that will allow everybody to do so.
I dunno if it's possible to blame this on capitalism. Legit business models do exist. MLMs just aren't one of them.
I have reasons I think capitalism is to blame, but I don't want to hijack your thread without permission. Let me know If I should make my case for why capitalism causes MLMs to exist and, dare I say, flourish.

In the end, though, maybe we must all give up trying to pay back the people in this world who sustain our lives. In the end, maybe it's wiser to surrender before the miraculous scope of human generosity and to just keep saying thank you, forever and sincerely, for as long as we have voices.
Creating value is difficult as opportunities are finite but scams are endless.

Gross. I still can't believe people fall for MLM scams with info on the Internet being so prevalent about them (I was invited to interview with Cutco in like 2011, googled them, and promptly cancelled my interview), but they seem to prey mostly on the vulnerable and uneducated.
