I'll go with the mysterious person theme, with the softened lines from the watercolor and her expression, she appears a tad bit mysterious... or maybe I want her to be...
I drew her to be mysterious looking, so it's not only you who want her to be that way :). I am very fond with some ambiguous artworks, I think it's great that the viewers' perception is part of the art.
Thank you dswigle.

Thank you Felix :D.
Welcome, Scrawly wawly~
I did kind of mentally facepalm at that XD At the same time I do understand your fascination as I remember playing around with watercolours in the past and doing a lot of experimenting with effects from watering down and layering over.
And waterlogging a lot of paper XD
I really like how the cloth turned out :)
Hehehe yeah. I dunno why it never really registers to me before. I guess my mind conveniently accepted the fact that it's just something that needs water before I apply it to paper, like that's just how the tools works, without really considering that I could play around with the water bit to make interesting stuff happens. I can be a bit oblivious sometimes XD.
Thanks fyn :).
Thank you very much for another beautiful portrait drawing, @scrawly! Fantastic job!
Thank you for giving me such nice comments, trin :D.

Thank you c-squared :D.
I'm liking this! I always adored monochromatic paintings so this is cool to see ^^
P.s I had the same revelation with water in watercolor too some time ago XD
Aha!!! There's another one like me :D :D :D!
I'm glad I'm not the only one being oblivious lol.
Amazing red color!
Thank you, red is such a lovely colour :).
She looks really ominous in all those different shades of red, @scrawly! I get such a foreboding feeling from her stoic expression and that crescent moon that offsets her portrait at the background... * ___ *
The absence of ANY other colours but red is a bold colour experimentation ! I salute you~ I think I'd like to try this also.... ! You should try with blues and maybe with browns... I think those hues will generate their own 'moods' :D
Love the shine on her red veil, specially... it looks really silky and it has a gorgeous sheen~
Oh yeah, I'm having fun with using restricted colours in my art. I started doing this when I was learning about values and hues? Not really sure but one of the art articles that I read recommends people to focus on shading.
Thank you spider, I will take your suggestions ^_^.

Monochromatic Coolness!! I think its cool how your paper is absorbing the paint too. Especially the background areas. :-)
Yes! That paper absorbing paint is totally a new thing for me. Obviously digital media doesn't behave like this, but I'm finding out that different paper behaves differently. Quite exciting and daunting as well (so much new stuff to learn) hahaha.
Thank you :D.

More lifelike than statuesque Scrawly ~ But I'd say searching rather than stoic. Your starting to get those soft edges now where subject meets background as well as keeping the definitions in other areas. Wonderful painting.
Watercolour is such a fluid medium. In some ways unpredictable but the more you do and understand the nature of the unpredictability the more you can make the decisions. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎
Working with edge in watercolour is still tricky for me, part of it because I get impatient waiting for the paper to dry, a problem that I don't have to face in digital media. Right now I'm still thinking that the good things that happen on paper are accidental beauties than something that I can control with precision. Or maybe this will always be the nature of watercolour art, but of course as you said, the more I know of the medium, the more likely that I can make good things happen.
Thank you Ally ^_^.
Exactly. The more familiar you are with the medium, the more you'll be able to work out (to a certain degree) what you want. Still allowing for the 'happy accidents' and 'being in the flow.'
And the good news is that there ARE solutions for everything, including becoming impatient waiting for your watercolour to dry. Some watercolourists will work on a few paintings at the same time. Some will use a hair dryer. Some will go and have breakfast. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎
Hehehe you are right and also funny. If I decide to take a break and eat something, I usually take a few hours to return to art. I'm easily distracted, bad habit, I know.
