A Fishing Tale

in #partiko6 years ago (edited)

It was a good day on the water. The nets bulged like a pregnant woman. Over 100 kilos of fish writhed within confines of the net. A tall, muscular man stood, feet apart bracing against the lapping waves that pushed upon his ship as he dragged the net higher. Muscles rippled and heaved in protest and setting sun rays accentuated their strength. Four other fishermen took strategic positions in a sacred dance of pulling and shifting the burgeoning catch. The captain stared with intense eyes in concentration while shouting orders as the net lifted on the hoist. The days catch would feed them all and deposit needed cash in the crew's wallets. Caption John was one of the successful fishermen on the bay and other ships pulled in, anchoring nearby, with much less to show for the day.

A small woman stood waiting on the dock for her husband. Her extended belly seemed enough incentive for her husband to take chances in capturing the most fish for his time on the water.

He finished the chore of lifting the catch and called to his men. Several stayed behind to tend to the icing and packing of the still writhing fish to prepare transport to local vendors. A young man stood, pen in hand recording the record haul.

Suddenly, the young woman teetered on the dock. Her cry rang out across the water and Captain John's head flew to the sound just to see his beloved wife crumple like a rag doll and slip to the edge of the dock. I saw her plunge into the chilled waters just as Captian John tossed his jacket to the ship floor and dive straight as an arrow into the waters.

Sailing away is as simple as closing your eyes.
Drifting with the internal tick tock of the heartbeat.
There are waves in the back and forth of the breathing.
And in the blood there is salt.
You are closer to the ocean than you think!
All a bunch of lunatic!
Much love,
Botty <3

Thank you! @michellpiala. Sometimes the story just flows so quickly. Those are the fun prompts. I got an image of Captain John in my head when I thought on the prompt and it wrote itself.
