A Filipino Culture Story: Why you should buy from local street vendor than to big stores?

In this country, oligarchs and capitalist are monopolizing the economy. They manipulate prices touching flow of supplies. I have no evidences to prove that but I'm observing the trends. Poor stay poor and rich increases their wealth. Comparing from apples to apples? Other countries support their own local they avoid importing as much as possible. Why import if you have the same quality seen in locals. This cycle will help the small medium-size enterprise grow or by supporting local community have their sustainable livelihood. Our national economy will be as strong as this country leaders. Like Japan and Korea, this has been part of their culture focusing the potential, maximizing own's gems and vice-versa. If you notice they are not good using other's language, the same treatment using their own.Intelligence is not measured how fluent you speak the universal language. From the documentary I've watched their local engineering and technology is kicking. They are more disciplined and united. Time is so precious not to waste.

Got bored and I decided to go with my wife she never buys organic food in mall's supermarket/hypermarket. We prefer to have it in Public Market. Fruits are more fresh, cheaper, more options to select unlike in groceries that is wrapped in plastic and might a product of GMO. I saw different seller and I said to my wife to buy instead to a street vendor who can't afford to have a slot of paid place inside the market. Of course not risking the quality of a product we still select the best deal (my wife is an expert).

We ended up with this old woman who is close to our hearts selling dried fish in a pallet displayed in side-walk. We've got a chitchat and exchanging smiles. As I hand in the pay I felt the satisfied same feeling of doing charity, it feels so good. I saw Muslim people they were in same line selling fresh fish just caught in the sea. For quality checking, same as usual my wife checks the eyes, the gills and comparing of prices. In Filipino culture, we have this cultural differences I solely heard it on both sides. This gap hindrance the rocket boom of our economy including of being a fanatic of importing and a loyal consumer of international products which unfortunately the raw materials are from our locals. Where's our patriotism and nationalistic now?

If you want to help lives of struggling co-Filipinos I encourage you to buy products from locals. Their profits directly help, bringing food to serve on the table and there will be no hungry little ones. I'm not prohibiting you to buy in the big establishment but I think you have to open your eyes. You can't define how much help you can give to this local trader supporting each of their families.

Hopefully, I can catch the attention of steemit influencers it doesn't matter if you're a minnow, you can still make a difference as this is the reality. I admit It's really hard to steal the time of whales. If you're reading this article I awe you some cent of reblogging this post and to all local traders.

Hi, great post about supporting the local industry and I do agree that our government's policies are hindering us to prosper as an independent nation.

I would just like to add that there is nothing wrong with GMO's, if you can take the time to learn about them you'll understand. Poor and bad publicity gave it a stigma and people assume GMO's to be dangerous to your health, which is not.

Hi @pavlove, no adjective in my article that described pertains to GMO if it's "BAD TO HEALTH". We can respect the preference of people what to eat. Thanks for spending time reading my article.

It's good to know that you support locals and small scale businesses... There's support from the government but of course it's not enough. This article is a good campaign for all Filipinos. I hope many will support your advocacy. Gracias!

@livsky thanks that you see my real intent. By starting it in our self, it's somehow a way of helping this kind of people.

Indeed, building a better community and helping the needy...😀

wow i like to know different culture.

Every culture is interesting.

tangkilikin ang sariling atin. thanks for reminding us bro.

A decade phrase but was not successfully followed by our countrymen.

Yeah it is true we also buy vegeables and fruit in the public market

Let's support them my friend @ neilanthony.

Let us not limit ourselves by just learning a single language. Not to disagree :) My point is even we learn other languages, we must learn and know our own language first!

While taking my masters degree few years ago, we had a discussion in our Applied Economics class on how we could help the vulnerable sector. We came to a point and agreed that it is important to build them up by (1) teaching them how to fish instead of giving them fishes all the time; (2) and support the local market by buyiny good from them.

Helping their industry grow is one way of sending their kids to school and giving food on their tables.

Thank you for sharing this by the way.

Welcome @gailbelga, a simple and effective way of lifting them.

we buy our fresh produce and fish in the market

Good to hear that and spread it please po @purpledaisy57.

I am with you on this one @loistoryador ! Always support locals!

If you see one in your place, run through them without hesitation @bloghound.

I always patronize what street vendors are selling.I think that's one of my ways to help them.Besides, their vegetables and fruits are fresher and safer to eat.

:) continue doing that @purpleheart.

I love cooking and I still love going to palengke and talipapa. Much cheaper and it reminds me of my childhood days.

All good points!! ❤ Instead of buying from supermarkets where you would make rich people becomes even richer, why not buy from these vendors in the public market. even if you are not buying much, it would mean so much to them. ❤

Absolutely correct with a heart :)
