Artsy Fartsy Friday: Tita Juls learns about Art

in #philippines7 years ago (edited)

Tita Juls managed to drag her feet through the week and finally it is Friday yet again. She and and a fellow officemate were feeling particularly rebellious and decided to go for a stroll to stretch their corparate limbs.

They happened upon a book shop offering free art classes, and as you know from Tita Juls' second story, 'Free!' is the magic word.

She went back after office hours to try her hand in ART

Tita Juls loves art, but art does not love her back, it seems 😐

In the first session, comic artist *Mischa gave some pointers on how and what to start with when creating a comic strip:

  1. Write/Draw about your day
  2. Make a List
  3. Think about you feel
  4. Explore how to tell your story

With that in mind Tita Juls came up with this:

'OFFICE POLITOOLS'

Pencil: You take too long to make desicions!
Pen: And you think you can do anything!

Oh well, maybe better luck in the next session, Tita Juls shrugged. And why are there no free erasers here? she wondered.

Her friend was on her way so maybe she thought she might do better with a little moral support.

The second session was about Doodling. Indeed, it is considered an art nowadays. Back then, being caught doodling meant being sent to the principal's office.

"What is unique about doodling is that since you concentrate on a small part of the paper, you wouldn't feel overwlemed the way a blank A4 would."

"Think about the art in segments," the speaker, *Kate, said. "Afterwards you can combine them anyway you like."

'Doodling' is now accepted. Yay!

Tita Juls was feeling a little better now and felt a little bit in her element.

The third and last session for the night was about drawing super heroes. Tita Juls immensely doubted she'd get through this masquerade but decided to move forth. She still had another hour or so to kill, so what the heck.

The art instructor, *Oscar, (who seemed so young but mentioned he actually worked for one of the sponsors of the free art sessions), was very good but also very fast in talking about the drawing. This one actually involved grid lines and drawing a form much like Da Vinci's The Vitruvian Man but with a costume.

Tita Juls tried with all her might and reached within the depths of her creative mind...

The Vitruvian Man it is most definitely NOT

...and threw down the 'Fahbuhr-Cahstehl' aqua color pencil in frustration.

This wouldn't even make a super villan!

She had a depressing sensation that her younger self would have done way, way better, which was a weird feeling because as an adult one would mostly doing things better. However, she comforted herself that at least she took home a free post card and a free pen, and that maybe she was just sleepy 😪

To whom shall she be writing and drawing, that is the question...
