Bad things happen in the world and I don't understand the mindset of people who wanna take away people's rights and abilities to defend themselves when such bad things do happen.
Yes their intentions are noble, but.. The predators will prey even more on their prey when their ability to defend themselves is less.
In my opinion the answer to such violence isn't trying to take weapons away, it's addressing the reason people pick up guns to terrorize or kill in the first place.
Crazy violent people will always find ways to mass murder, especially the more you take away the average persons ability to defend themselves.
The problems aren't weapons, the problems are why people use them unjustly. A knife or a gun can both unjustly kill or it can justly save a life, it's the user, not the tool.
Address the disease, not the symptoms if you really wanna try to heal it instead of putting a metaphorical bandaid over it that may make it even way worse.
You are right @apolymask. Weapons are not problems. Problems are in mind.
Well thought out understanding of the
self defense' principle. A
right' everyone is born with. A right you cannot delegate to someone else and a personal responsibility of oneself. That is why it is called aright'. The
initiation' of violence is NOT a right, but rather a wrong. An excellent explanation and understanding of this concept is described on Mark Passio's YouTube video on Natural Law. Excellent post based on understanding of consciousness and personal responsibility.Well said. I agree with you totally. I may have seen that Mark Passio vid already I'm not sure, but I'm pretty familiar with his lectures on natural law.. And I generally agree. Thanks for your thoughtful response!
Yes, exactly right my man! It makes absolutely no sense to takeaway someone's right to defend themselves, family, or someone in danger. These laws they try to push I believe is to incorporate a police state, using the feelings of good intention of most people, but not people wise enough to use reasoning instead of feel good feelings to get unreasonable laws passed.
I agree with your sentiments that this is an issue of the hearts and minds of individuals who lack compassion, are corrupted, or are misguided. Making the majority of gun owners, who are law abiding citizens, hand their weapons over is a great way to diminish their loyalty to your governance. If you take countries besides America for instance, you will see in the UK there is a huge issue with knife violence. As a result they are trying to instill knife bans... How ridiculous is that? With the advent of the internet, it is too easy for someone to get a burner phone and go to a starbucks and research how to put together a bomb made from house hold products and then ditch the phone after noting their findings. The problem is not that these weapons exist. The problem is that we are not responsible enough for their use. The individuals who are experienced should push to educate and build a culture around firearms similar to martial arts practices. Making it paramount to hold these means for violence in reserve, and use them only when absolutely necessary. I would love to hear any feedback from anyone else on this topic.
Well said! I agree with pretty much everything you said and I come from a martial arts background so I can totally vibe with the sentiments and points you made. The world is a dangerous place, we should be able to defend ourselves in a free society. Hell. It's an inherent human right regardless of what government you live under, but.. I'm sure you get what I mean.
I definitely think the answer is to help educate people to be more responsible and ethical. Those who want to cause violence will find ways and we shouldn't make ourselves further victims by being unable to defend ourselves as well.
There's a reason I think certain power structures become the super powers of the world, Rome was one and they required their citizens to also serve as soldiers, in the US we are suppose to be similar.. All people are considered a part of the militia. So.. I think in order to truly ensure freedom and not let tyrants take over even more, we have to all sort of.. Do our part and not just leave that stuff to someone else because they're an "expert" or whatever.. NO.. We all need to do these basic human things in my opinion. We should all be prepared to defend ourselves, unless you're a total pacifist and you don't believe in violence at all. Then that's up to you if you wanna let others take advantage of you and exploit you and perhaps worse.. Maybe even kill you.
Anyways.. I think an important part of all this is like you mentioned, self ownership and self responsibility. Not banning things.
Also I wouldn't expect to hear much from others as this is a pretty old thread! Looks like it was 5 months ago I posted this.. But that's cool once again to see how evergreen this can be when people comment on my posts from a long time ago. :)
the problem is putting automatic weapons in the hands of an increasingly selfish, undignified, immoral, etc etc..
With that being said, I might need weapons to defend myself from them lol just wrote about that.
Isn't that kind of what I said? And no one is putting weapons in the hands of others, people with a desire for weapons seek out and obtain them, these days you can print them up with a 3d printer, it's kinda hard to restrict them when anyone can print one up in their own home.
Right there with anyone. We should get an international fire arm registry to prevent this issue. We could have every register their guns at the point of b purchase and have to digitally sign a blockchain ever shot fired.
How do you think tracking such things would help? It may reduce some violence slightly, but criminals will always find ways to get guns, heck we can print them with 3d printers now. There are other concerns as well. We shouldn't have to tell anyone what kind of weapons we are using to defend ourselves, that in and of itself allows a predator to hurt you even more if they know what you have.
@phusionphil Tracking weapons with a ledger could be an interesting method for tracking them, but to try and track every round fired is simply ridiculous. There are so many individuals (In America specifically) who remanufacture their own ammunition with spent brass. Many of them have no desire to have their practices traced on a public ledger. Food for thought...
We have to be just while using the weapon, cuz its just a servant, we are the masters.
@apolymask,
People who well controlled no matter they used what kind of weapon! Coz, they won't use it for nothing! If psycho gets a weapon then we know what will happen! Few days ago we had a good example for it!
Great post dude!
Cheers~

Yes dear these it is very easy to get weapons and kill anybody. We are making them easy to print or make the weapons but we are not teaching them how to use them carefully.
