The Fool Archetype.

in #philosophy8 years ago (edited)

The fool is one of the most important archetypes to try to understand.
And contrary to what most people think, I think it's actually good to try to embrace the fool in yourself.

In my opinion this doesn't necessarily mean you should go try to be foolish, but rather I think it's important to realize we're all fools in certain ways and at certain times in our lives.

As far as I know.. No one knows everything, in fact.. No one even knows very much in the grand scheme of things.
Some certainly know more than others.. Yet, I believe we're all equally incapable of knowing the ultimate truth.
So to an extent.. We're all fools, we're all ignorant, we're all dumb and stupid in some ways.

If you're able to.. Sort of.. Acknowledge that when you're wrong, or just in general if someone calls you one of those labels or names with or without good reason..
Then, you're leagues above the individual who is easily reactive and controlled by such descriptions or taunts.

One thing "know it alls" can't seem to stand is when someone challenges their so called knowledge.
It really reveals a lot about someone, how they react towards such conflicts.

With me personally.. I still have frustrations when peoples lack of knowledge leads to harming others unjustly.
Yet, for most other things.. I don't really care much in a negative way what people say or believe.
You believe in flat earth? Cool. Good for you. You believe in cloud busting? Good for you. Cool.
You believe in raping little kids? We have a major fucking problem.

I'm not sure if that's fair of me or not.. But it's how I am right now and it makes sense.
Some people are further and they don't care even when innocents are harmed by ignorance.. Yet that's not me and I'm not sure I'll ever get there.

I feel like I'd have to almost kill my heart to get to that point.. I'm not ruling it out.. But right now.. That's a kind of ignorance I have little toleration for.
Maybe someday I'll get so spiritual and out of my body that I'll believe this is all just a game or we reincarnate and no death or rape or pain is real and just imaginary.
And that we're all one eternal spirit that keeps coming back and never really dies.. Yet.. Right now I'm still half here on earth. I'm still grounded.
Not sure I wanna float off into such realms.

Right now I feel like if I did that, things in the world would only get worse.. I feel like caring is essential and one of the most important things..
Why even live if you didn't care about yourself and others? What would be the point?
I don't need anything more than basic logic, basic common sense and the golden rule to come to that conclusion.
Not saying I'm 100% right, but it makes more sense than almost anything to me.
I would suggest.. Compassion is critical or we might as well be robots.

So.. Yeah.. There's a lot of people out there who claim to know all kinds of crazy stuff.
That can not be proved, or easily logically demonstrated.. And many of these things have nothing to do with morality. Or.. Almost nothing.
Like.. The shape of the earth for example.. Has almost nothing to do with morality other than some people might be lying about the shape of the planet for whatever reason.
Yet some people will swear or proclaim with absolute conviction that the earth is this shape or that shape without ever having personally been far enough into space to see it.
This goes for BOTH sides. Even though I'm 99% on the sphere earth side, I admit.. I don't know for sure. I haven't been out that far in space, and people are amazing at lying and creating false realities for the public/exoteric/outer to follow.

Let's go further, and this should strike even more controversy if anyone reads this far, but it's not a new position of mine.
I feel the same about evolution and the big bang, and God, and.. Reincarnation and astrology and karma and.. So on so forth for quite a while.
I question almost everything, I leave them all open as possibilities, but.. Don't think anyone can really prove any of these things even if they think they are fact like some people think many of them are, especially evolution.

I mean.. I'm going to end this rant soon, but I'll return to my theory I created a while back called "Human Amnesia Theory".
We don't know who we are, we don't know where we really came from, we don't know the best ways to even keep our physical bodies in shape or what foods we are suppose to eat to be healthy.
Science is still fucking arguing about how to exercise and eat thousands of years later.. 10 thousand years at least from around the time of the first civilizations according to accepted mainstream history.

We don't know barely anything! Though almost everyone thinks they know a lot more than they do!
Over 10,000 years according to mainstream sources and.. We still don't even know the best way to eat or exercise..
That just makes me like.. Shocked and saddened. It's almost like there's an effort by those in power to disconnect us from our true history whatever it is.

This is one reason I try to be so open minded, I grew up mostly outside of the indoctrinated schools and churches and centers that were set up to control peoples minds before they are even born.
I've looked at all this from the outside looking in, questioning almost everything.. And it's fucking fascinating and amazing just how much so many people think they know that they don't.
It's truly one of the most fascinating things I've ever witnessed.. This desperation to appear as if you know more than you do..
Whether religion or science or superstition or opinion on sports or entertainment or music or what ever...

It's like.. People are scared to not know, so they often put on a mask of knowing, but it's not real knowing, it's acting.
It's a part of their costume and they are on stage playing a play. It's not "real" per se, it's a hallucination.
And with that.. I'm going to end this rant with a neat quote I heard the other day.

"When we agree on hallucinations, we call that reality"

Sort:

Interesting subject matter. I always believed " I know enough to know I don't know enough".

Indeed it is! And that's a good quote! I've never heard that one before.. I think I'll share that in the future. There's one I like that goes something like.. "The more I know the more I know I don't know". :) But that's a lot more common you've probably already heard it.

Very nice post friend.

I always try to embrace the fool archetype. I feel like "the less I know" the better. I try to keep my beliefs simple. I think of the fool as a blank slate while many assume they are idiotic or simple minded, I don't see that. I think a lack of defined beliefs and willingness to keep an open mind and experiment is crucial to evolution. Nice post!

Word clayboyn. That seems like a pretty healthy mindset! It seems rather rare to find other people who are similarly open minded.. Most people it seems like to me seem to claim all kinds of things they can't prove all the time, heh. Sometimes I'm guilty of this myself unconsciously or on accident, but.. I at least TRY really hard, heh. A lot of people don't even try..

But yeah! Just to add on what you said at the end there especially, I feel like.. The way our brains work, when you "clamp" down on one belief, that sort of becomes your "reality".. So.. You should be careful which beliefs you clamp down on and make as your reality! If you don't really know, sometimes the best bet is to just leave the possibilities open and that kind of mindset I think also helps open you up even more to potential solutions or work arounds or side ideas based on how the brain works with associations and such..
Anyways, don't wanna talk your ear off and I have a lot more messages to respond to, heh.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment and for appreciating! Hope you're doing well.

Nice one, I will add this embrace to my life philosophy too.
