What Is Identity?
Identity is what you understand yourself to be. The majority of people have overlapping identities, many of which usually conflict with others. The conflict and tension between identities, usually that are at the same time ours and different times that conflict with those of others, is what we call "identity politics."
There are many different axes of identity. As an example, we may define somebody's identity in terms of their:
1. Gender
2. Faith
3. Denomination Within A Faith
4. Sexual Orientation
6. Sex
6. Ability / Disability
7. Ethnicity
8. Race
9. Political Affiliation
10. Nationality
11. Citizenship
12. Age
13. Relationship Standing
14. Regional Affiliation
15. Ethical Beliefs
16. Broader Philosophical Beliefs
17. Language
18. Cultural Heritage
19. Academic Level
and so on.
The overlap/intersection of any one or more of those with anyone or a lot of different of the forgoing.
Finding Yourself
Some people will tell you that there's no right thanks to reading yourself. You as somebody was born a selected manner, and raised terribly} very bound quite surroundings, and blessed with by God with a selected quite temperament. In short, there is, in fact, a correct identity for you, that's once you apprehend the truth regarding WHO you are.
You need to look out it, and once you perceive what it is, that knowledge will liberate you and allow you to begin growing as a person. You'll then have a healthy sense of self-esteem and understand that you aren't an irredeemably worthless or atrocious person, but at the same time; you'll recognise what your flaws are and what you want to try and do to correct them.
Liberating Notion
Floating about beneath any assumed identity that suits your fancy is the path of the immature person, kind of a child playing, make-believe. You'll end up idle and be tossed to and fro by various circumstances of life, pain others and be hurt yourself.
Running away won't help your cause as you will always be haunted by your past. Maybe in a new pretence, but still there. It will be like a bad poem, with every stanza rhyming dissonantly with the last.
Yes, that's true, an identity is knowing oneself because when people say that he/she understands you then that becomes an perception, but the true identity is one which is hides in your self and that is your innerself so, if you know who you are and if you are following your innerself and acting with credibility then you are showcasing true identity. Thanks for sharing this interesting post with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂
And the perfect quote to cap it all. beautiful. We are a blend of everyone we've met. Lovely peace my dear!
Sadly, our society views individuals who think for themselves and who are more true to themselves as freaks, deplorables, weirdos, etc. The individual who is more himself than someone desperately trying to fit in is made to feel second rate. Most people are too weak to attempt understanding their true identity--that is eliminating the labels where they fit in with everyone else. You are absolutely correct when you say, "Floating about beneath any assumed identity that suits your fancy is the path of the immature person."
Good one mate :)
identity politics is the most dirty kind of politics I've ever seen!
