RE: Common Sense Is An Illusion

in #philosophy8 years ago (edited)

I think it is really important to note that everyone has their own interpretation of what common sense is. A doctor may know that it is common sense not to give a pregnant women opiates , however on the other hand the patient may not see this as even being an issue. I believe that common sense is something that is taught to use through our environment. It is not until a child touches a hot stove until he or she knows it is hot. The average adult would know that it is common sense that a stove is hot, but a child would not.

This is what I am pointing out in the article. Everyone has their own version of common sense. The doctor will not given a pregnant woman opiates because he studied specific information that is not necessarily directly available to the rest of the public.

It is not until a child touches a hot stove until he or she knows it is hot.

yeap. experience is everything.

Sorry bad example. I am sure there are many other illustrations of how we learn what common sense is through our environment. Great post though.

I am sure there are. But, i am also sure that there are examples how the "common sense" of some people might lead large populations into common delusions.

In China it is common sense to be hateful and apprehensive towards foreigners. LOL maybe I am just mixing up what common sense and learned behavior is .
