A medieval high celtic cross at the Kilree monastic site, in County Kilkenny. The cross is believed to be from the 9th century and is possibly that of the Northern O’Neill High King, Niall Caille, as he drowned in the nearby Kings River in 844AD. There is a 29 metre traditional high round tower in the background. Most of the round towers in Ireland date from 950AD-1100AD Ireland.

Good historical site photo!
Thanks
I just returned to Cornwall, where my ancestors (on my maternal side) come from. They came to Australia a couple hundred years ago or so. Anyway, it was such a rewarding experience. I've traced my family tree back to the mid 1400's and visited some of the places they lived and died. Was humbling. Old stuff is more interesting to me than the new. Nice image in your post mate.
Thanks for sharing. Keep it coming!
Sounds like an amazing trip. I love exploring historical stuff too. Thanks for the support.
It was...And will be again when I return...Those Cornish pasties... :)
You're welcome. I enjoy your posts. My vote isn't worth much unfortunately so I cannot reward you commensurate to the reward I receive from reading your work. Sorry.
A comment is worth more than any vote. The main reason to share here for me is to engage with the community and get feedback. The votes are just a bonus.
Every time when I see something really old I cant help it but to always think about what has this thing(stone) seen in its time being there.
Yes. Makes your time here feel small.
Exactly!
Beautiful shot with the green grass and blue sky. I like the history to go with the photo :)

howdy sir intrepidphotos! very interesting photo indeed. Do you know what the towers were for, a lookout perhaps?
I don't thin anyone knows specifically what they were for but they built them all over Ireland in that period. Lookout seems an obvious one.
