Greetings Dear Readers;
.
Hope you are well.
Shall we have a look at this Timeless Truth...'People will use flattery and guilt to control you.'
It sounds like a very simple matter....however, we have the words 'Flattery' and 'Guilt' in this sentence...two words which have negative connotations.
Flattery can slip right past us....Let's see if the dictionary can help us with this word....
Definition;...to portray too favourably, false, insincere or excessive praise, to shower attention upon in order to gratify the recipient's vanity or to ingratiate oneself.
'Guilt',another one that could use a good definition to assist in understanding this principle....
Definition;...justly liable, deserving of blame, the fact of having committed a breach of conduct.
Let's give this Principle a think.
Thank you for dropping by. ^__^
.
Kind Regards,
Bleujay
.
Principles are timeless truths as relevant today as they were yesterday and will be tomorrow.
All for our ponderance.

That is a good sentiment and lesson for sure. Smart to keep it on your mind in business and social relationships to make sure you are not being led astray.
There is a fine line between being nice/giving compliments and flattery. Sure leadership is part complimenting people on the behaviour you would like them to exude. Empty and aggrandize compliments are a warning sign for me as they either signal someone desperate to be liked, or a hidden agenda.
Guilt. Man that is a different one for me as a recovering catholic! Guilt plays a part in motivating yourself to do what needs to be done and developing discipline. Guilt can either be the fuel for doing things we know we should have but didn’t or a pressure that can drive someone eventually to depression. The blame game is regressive and I strive to assign responsibility and work together on a solution.
I say we invest ourselves authentically so that compliments are just that and just let people manage their own guilt to motivation levels.
Greetings @zekepickleman ,
Thank you for such a thought-full comment...Well said!
It is a fine line...is it not... ^__^
So true with regard to guilt..there are negatives but they can be turned to a positive motivation. Like asking ourselves ...What did we learn?
If I may leave you with a thought...since you mentioned Catholicism. Religion is man seeking the approbation of God through his works...Christianity is God seeking man through the work of Christ on the Cross.
Christianity is not a religion....however I think Catholicism is.
Appreciate you dropping by....thank you!

Bleujay

Yes...a splendid lesson indeed.
Kind Regards to you and your good lady,
Bleujay
Thanks for the well wishes 😄
I personally don't see flattery as a big problem, you can tell when someone wants to achieve something with it.
It's one of those things with guilt, it always depends on certain rules that a community sets up, what's wrong here can't be a problem elsewhere.
Anyway, I've got a hankering for an apple and a banana and I'm going to get them now, without feeling guilty. 😉

Good day @bleujay!
Once again, you've presented us with a beautiful photo that for me looks like a classical painting because of the lighting. There's a good amount of contrast while preserving the colors of the subject.
And about the life principle that you shared, my thought is that it's better to be truthful than mislead others through flattery or guilt.
Have a great day ahead!
Greetings @curamax ,
How kind of you to drop by with your succinct words...as that was my very intention with the photographs and response to the principle...I could not ask for better.
Thank you for your kind wishes...wishing you the same.

That is true, using both Flattery and Guilt is a very negative way of how they can control us and very well because if we do something that harms another person without meaning to or wanting to, it will make us feel bad and we will seek to make amends.
Greetings @hjrrodriguez ,
Thank you for your kind response to the Principle...so true.

Bleujay

My word I must have come across the word flattery countless times in my life and while I thought I understood it from reading your post I don't believe I did. I thought one could demonstrate genuine flattery in a positive manner, I simply thought it meant complimenting someone, which is a nice thing to do so long as you are being sincere.
However, from reading the dictionary definition you have included in your post it appears that flattery is something associated with insincerity and negativity, how interesting. I shall now had to revise my use of the word, not that flattery is something I adopt much in the usual course of things but it does merit reappraisal. Thank you @bleujay for this insightful post.
As for guilt well I think most of us really should know what that entails because most of us have probably felt it at some stage in our lives. Sadly it's usually the good people who are consumed by guilt and have difficulty controlling it, and the bad characters either don't feel it or don't understand it. Such is life.
Good to see some lovely fresh fruit there @bleujay with a wonderful ceramic trough cradling them. Thanks for including a shot of the lid, what a beautiful piece.

How very kind of you to drop by with this lovely response to the Principle and your generous gift...thank you!
Definitions do assist in the understanding of words...even when we think we know them. Sometimes the definition will also list...synonyms and antonyms which assists even furthur. Antique dictionaries are the most helpful, Project Gutenberg.org offers free downloads of all manner of books...dictionaries included.
Happy to hear your kind thoughts regarding the photographs.
Kind Regards,
Bleujay

I don't trust flattering people. When a person finds nothing wrong with another person, everything seems wonderful, it's absurd. I'd rather leave them aside.
Now, when we are guilty, we always know it. If some people want to ignore it, that's another matter. That's why it's better to go slowly, analyze before speaking and acting, and of course, if you are guilty, admit it and apologize. Look here for example.

I enjoyed seeing your Still Life photos. The lid to the serving piece has nice art as well.
Flattery, when used insincerely is nearly always instantly recognizable.....nearly always. :)
Guilt attempts annoy me and make me instantly distrustful. If a person or company uses guilt tactics to try to get me to do something or give something, it becomes my immediate opinion that they don't really have a valid reason for what they want to happen. If they know they can't present something honestly for their case, they try to guilt others into doing what they want. I'm sure it works for some things, but not with me.
It's true though, both are used many times to try to control others.

beautiful works as always my friend! It is very true what you say, we must know within ourselves and learn to feel out peoples intentions, flattery is the most easiest path to manipulation from bad individuals

You're welcome. 😊 Have a great day. 😊
Many people today, especially politicians, are blind to the truth because of the sycophants around them. And they will not see the truth as long as they have sycophants who praise what they do wrong to get them to do what they want.
As for guilt, I'm sure we've all experienced it in our bilateral relationships, haven't we?
Thanks for the food for thought @bluejay ^^

Ako poznajete sebe nema bojazni da će vas laskanje zavesti. Da li će se laskanje pretvoriti u mentalnu korupciju, zavisi od pojedinca.
Ko želi, upotrebiće svoju pronicljivost i raskrinkati laskanje.
Nametanju osećaja krivice treba pristupiti smireno i racionalno.
Ah, umalo da zaboravim... Nismo svi od istog materijala.
Pitam se, kako će moje mišljenje zvučati nakon prevoda? Hvala najlepše na današnjoj objavi, @bleujay.

The definitions are very enlightening! They make me understand these concepts more accurately.
Most people like to hear praises, so flattery is inevitable.
Guilt could be a very powerful tool to influence people’s feelings.

Have a blessed day @bleujay!
You touched on an interesting topic lol, flattery is sweet like exotic fruits with the convulsive trembling of a dog that looks like a skinny livret that was probably once punished for stealing a chicken leg from the table and can't forgive herself for it :)
Who knows, maybe what you described looks exactly like that on a gilded tray with copper oxide.
It is sometimes difficult to explain that a feeling of guilt is a sign of orphanhood, which should disappear in us immediately after adoption by God, many, even having come to know God and his mercy, remain orphans in the presence of God and in front of people.
I heard this wise and well-formed thought about the spirit of orphanhood in the sermon of Pastor Andrey Shapovalov, I felt it in my bones, but I did not have the formulation of it in such a key :)
You have created a speaking still life, a bit of renaissance, and eternal truth...
