So this is going to be something new for me, but I thought I'd get a little more personal and show all my awesome friends here on Steemit some photos from my beautiful home! This series will mainly include photos from my gardens, lots of the artwork from my family, and any other things I think are interesting enough to photograph around here. I hope you enjoy!
The general state of my yard is 'Jungle'. Here we have a Philodendron surrounded by Grapefruit, Rubber tree, Avocado, giant Birds of Paradise, and the towering trunks of the Baja fan palms
Avocados are probably my favorite of my many crops here
Here in SoCal we can grow tomatoes almost all year!
Goodies from the garden!
I have many flowers growing as well
Including multiple types of Hibiscus
I think the yellow ones are probably my favorite
I also have a plethora of interesting succulents
Including at least 3 different types of Aeoniums
And many of the succulents also produce beautiful flowers
This goofy one thought it'd be fun to do a loop before shooting up to bloom!
Mr. Tinkerbell
A couple of my many towering Eucalyptus trees. Mostly just a pain to maintain, I think my grandparents planted them for firewood... but this is SoCal. It hardly ever gets cold here so not much firewood is really needed. But these and other huge trees make tree trimming a regular task for me
My yard is also full of a bunch of cool sculptures, this one has been recently getting called "Mr. Face" by my buddy's daughter
Throughout the garden you find cool statues like these
My grandparents covered everything in art
Evening by the pool (before my upgraded jumping platform)
Night time by the pool
Creepy shot just outside my kitchen windows
Bon fire time
...and that's gonna be it for this post.
But I do plan on having more posts like this featuring more of the really cool stuff here at my place!

Oh my word!!!! You are surrounded by SO much ABUNDANCE!!!! Shite! Sure beats the hell out of urban living (even WITH our magnificent views here in Cape Town!)
Must say I LOVE the statues! - That's TOTALLY my thaaang!
Such good energy @derekrichardson!!! Was really nice to step int your world! and you have MUCH to be grateful for! xxx
Thanks @jaynie! I'm really glad you liked it.
Lots of abundance yes, but it's also lots of work! lol. Yard work is constant. Watering, trimming, harvesting, composting, etc. I do enjoy it though.
Aren't the statues are so cool! My grandparents were into making all kinds of cool art. I really do have a lot to be grateful for. And I just scratched the surface with this post, there's so many more plants I grow here and tons more statues and other artwork. So I'm definitely planning to do some more posts like this in the future.
Sweet pics of your rad pad, brah!
Seriously though, you can grow your own avocados? That’s awesome! Those things sometimes go for for $2 a pop up here in the tundra of New England.
Thanks @dollarsandsense! I have 4 avocado trees that produce Fuerte avocados. On an average year I'll be eating avocados from October until January or February. Often with so many I'm giving them away to friends and family. And even here in SoCal where we can grow them they're still usually $1-$1.50 a pop!
That’s amazing! Talk about holding your investments! The most I can manage is a tomato plant and some herbs (not that kind of herb 🤣)
Wow! What a paradise you have there. I love the cat among all. :-D
It really is my own little piece of paradise. Thanks for checking it out!
@derekrichardson You are most welcome😀
wow, can I move into your back yard?? LOL
Haha! Isn't it cool! And actually my house sits way at the back of the property so it's more of a front yard then a back. I like it that way because then my house is hidden way back here out of view from the street.
Thank you for sharing @derekrichardson.i.m inviting you to my page
What a place of beauty both natural and artistic! Thanks for the peek into your sanctuary.
Thanks @creationofcare I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing a personal touch about your life. Your backyard (jungle) looks very exotic. It reminds me of when I visited Bali while living in Indonesia.
My mother and grandmother had an "exotic plants" business for awhile so now I have tons of different plants from all over the world growing here!
Wow! I'm delighted with succulents. I really love them - they have such a stunned color! And Mr. Tinkerbell, probably my favorite)) I also like art on the fence, it's so cool!
Thanks @amalinavia, I'm glad you like it!
Great photos you sure seem to have a green thuimb and a great garden
Thanks @tattoodjay
Your yard is amazing and so are your photos! Love to see the fruits you have as well as the variety of flowers! I am quite a big fan of hibiscus so seeing different types of them is just so lovely. Thank you for sharing this @derekrichardson :) Do share more!
Thanks so much @happycrazyzcon! I also have a hibiscus with red petals and yellow center but for some reason it doesn't have any flowers on it right now. Maybe it's because of the heat we've been having. I'm not sure. But when it blooms again I'll be sure to get some photos!
You have a very beautiful place and a garden that offers so much. You really took time and love to make it look this great. I hope you don't mind if I go for a little night swim lol. Cheers!
Thanks @watersnake101 With how hot it's been out here lately a night swim is not a bad idea!
What a spectacular yard. I wouldn't know where to look next, though I know my wife would love the avocado tree best.
Thanks @kunschj. The avocados are so good!
lovely, diverse and colorful garden you have there my friend...
Thanks @psyceratopsb! You see I included a shot of one of my Aeoniums?
Yeah..I even have one of them...
Man! I want to live in your yard!
We call this succulent "hen and bitties" I had one that was over 20 years old and when I moved up to the Atlanta area from south Georgia the first winter was too harsh for it and I lost it. Love the photos!
Oh man, what a bummer!! Luckily here in SoCal winter only really exists in the mountains so here in the valley I can grow all kinds of cool succulents and tropical plants.
BEAUTIFUL flowers! And look at those succulents! Simply gorgeous!
I tried growing some Ice Plants this year- but no luck. They germinated and started growing but took a nose dive about a month ago- maybe next year I'll try again.
Thanks @goldendawne! Try it again and I bet you'll get 'em growing next time.
Awesome pictures, @derekrichardson.
I'm so jealous of your garden - it really looks like paradise!
Thanks @simplymike. It is my own little piece of paradise!
It sure is :0)
wow, you could get lost in that back yard! I could explore it for days and probably live back there for a while before you would notice! lol.. so much to look at, thats awesome.. i love all the flowers and food.. and the fact that you can grow tomatoes year around makes me so jealous..
anyhow, i really enjoy all the pics thanks for sharing!
Thanks @moderndayhippie. Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude, you've got it made. And I'm rather jelly of your garden. I only have peppers and cucumbers planted. I better get on it.
