the 2nd shot looks a bit like some sweet snacks we have in Singapore.
I think is made from some flour paste and mold is dipped into the paste and then dipped into oil to fry. I don't know the name of that snack.
Tried to search online but guess have to wait for a few months later when the new year goodies start going on sale.
Yes, the baking procedure is as you describe it. In Slovenia, this is called krhki flancat. Krhki means brittle. Like tneder, on th evrge of breaking, ... There is no translation for flancat. Local word :)
