Camping at Purekkari, day II

in #photography6 years ago

Day 2 of our little camping trip has us waking up in a blue sauna. Well, luckily not as hot as in a sauna, but still, camping fun in the mornings - even the indirect sun and hot air have heated up the tent.

Bonus points for the tent window looking like Anox fund logo https://discord.gg/5Qj7Qtg (@bulleth).

When we wake up properly and crawl out of the tent, we're greeted by a perfect summer weather and an empty beach.

The beach will fill up with locals later, though, as it's a nice swimming and chilling spot.

After morning coffee and some sandwiches, a cool swim and some laying in sun on the empty, what almost feels like a private beach, we decide to scout the surrounding areas a bit.

Climbing up a nearby hills reveals a weird plateau. I cannot remember exactly what it was for, but looking at the tracks leading up the hill, we figure it might have been a plateau for heavy artillery or radars ages ago, as this whole peninsula was limited access only - military and their family, and of course, some selected politicians.

We venture further.

We come across an abandoned complex. At first, it doesn't look like much, but upon further investigating it appears to be an old abandoned camp site with small cottages.

Yep, that's where the elites probably spent their time.

These triangular summer cottages were apparently all the rage decades ago.

The main center is in ruins unfortunately. Nature is already taking back it's own.

Venturing further, to the other side of the peninsula, we stumble across a few other buildings in ruin, but mainly it's all beautiful nature here.

An apartment block?

Do you see how the military has camouflaged their vehicle depots, invisible to enemy bombers?

We reach the other side of the peninsula. The sea greets us again.

See that funny Mount Everest looking rock right there? Birds really have done a number on that poor rock.

Enough of old buildings. We're here to enjoy the nature, bathe in the sun and swim.

The rest of the day is spent on the beach and at our campsite, where some of our friends join us.

In the evening, we grab a few more shots of the sunset as another day rolls over.

Ooh ... those sunsets were magnificent!

Damn, looking at those pictures really makes me think that I need to take a break from the city and enjoy a bit of nature.

I'm so jealous :) You're doing so many of the things I love as well. I'm planning a camping trip and hike out here in North Texas very soon. Still, I wish I was there. What a great post!

Thanks! North Texas sounds nice, make sure to post about it!
