The Summer Palace has different beauties all the year round. Every winter, a thin layer of ice formed over the lake, which originally can be easily dimpled by the breeze.
The stone boat is berthed by the lake , which resembles a dragon boat on the water surface. And it is the largest ancient stone boat in our country.
The body of the stone boat is made up large rocks, and contained originally Chinese style cabins, which were burned by armies of British and French in 1860, now remaining its body.
Later, it was rebuilt and based on french style yacht under the instructions of the Empress Dowager of the Qing Dynasty. For instance, the western coloured glass were inlaid in the window of the cabin and then it is the only one building, which reflects the combination of Chinese and Western elements, in the Summer Palace.
颐和园一年四季都有不同的美。每年冬天，凌波荡漾的湖面，本来轻风一吹都能荡起涟漪，倒映着每一道光和影，此刻确盖上了一层薄薄的冰。停在万寿山前面的石舫，作为园中唯一一座带有中西合璧式的建筑，冬天里更能显出它的冷峻平和的美。

Never seen an ancient stone boat before. And it is indeed large! 😀 Love knowing the history that comes a long with it as well.

Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty had it moved to this place at much expense and named
it "Blue Iris Stone." This is the large stone decoration in any Chinese garden. History of this place is simply awesome :D @helene thanks for the lovely share..!
