Friendly Ladybird [3 images]

in #photography8 years ago

Well, either it was friendly... or sick. Either way! It landed on my wife's arm, and she called me over to take it...

Set it up on my photo table AKA the dining table on a white sheet and took a few photos, then put it back outside.

Great macros. Most of the ladybirds I've seen have completely black heads, so it's cool to see something different! :-)

Great macros of that ladybird! Looks like a little version of a Galapagos tortoise!

Yes,it seems just like a little tortoise

Wow, never seen a ladybird that close up before. Amazing photography. been looking at some of your photos. Truly beautiful. Thank you,

Thanks :)

I have a very old canon EOS 100mm macro lens. I bought it second hand in around the year 2000. It's one of my favourite lenses, even though the autofocus sucks... so slow, and if haven't flicked the switch on the side limiting it to focus either closeup or regular distance, it can take way too long to find focus, so it's really a manual focus lens. Plus the rubber on the focus ring had stretched and is loose. Having said that though, it's a great lens, perfect for portraits, and it's a proper 1:1 macro.

Nice shots btw. That ring flash looks like it'd come in handy in so many situations... me wantee!

I also had a rail focus on the tripod, I forgot to mention that. So I just zoom to 1:1 and then move the camera forward or backward with the rail. My lens is third hand, I was told it belonged to a wedding photographer for a few years... Works fine for me heh.

Here's the ring light that I have

Nice closeups !

Such cuties !!!

I really like seeing how the red fades into white on the wings. And how the spots aren't really round, up close. Insects are so cool up close - thanks!

so good! love it! <3

bird ?

Isn't that a Ladybug? lol
I'm at awe and confused at the same time.
Which makes this image pretty life changing for me.

lol, either name is used — ladybird or ladybug.

Coccinellids are known as ladybugs in North America, and ladybirds in other areas. Entomologists widely prefer the names ladybird beetles or lady beetles as these insects are not classified as true bugs. wiki

Not true bugs? Must be confusing being a ladybird! Not a bug, not always a lady, and definitely not a bird :(

they are called ladybirds here in the U.K.

Awesome!
Would you mind if I used your macrophotography as inspiration for my Day 5 drawing challenge?

Not at all, but please link the source image in the post.

Ladybug/birds are such a classic beetle. Great photos, you must have a pretty amazing light source.

Thanks, it's a Neewer macro ring light

I kind of wondered about that with the even lighting. Is it a continuous light LED or flash? Have an older flash-one, never have tried to adapt it to use. Don't do as much macro though, it's kind of a world in it's own. Guess that's why photography is so great, so many things to explore. Thanks.

I use it on continuous but there's also a flash setting.. Macro is really, really cool, I've only been doing it for a few months but I love it. Lots of interesting stuff available.
