It's hard to explain, but maybe this example dies: I always knew a lot about the latest software we use in our company and everybody came to me to get teached. I spent much time at the computers of others, when they had problems - I was kind of a private and fast IT support, and they asked me before they called our IT department for help.
Now, when new software arrives I don't care, if I don't need the software for my own work, and so I can say "I have no idea" if someone needs help ;)

Oh ok, I got it! Yes that makes total sense now. I agree, that is the way I would do it too unless you want to be known as the guy who knows how to fix everything and be on a big ego trip. lol.
I was somehow exactly this guy, and people still come to me, but they all know, that I have the same or even less knowledge about the new software as they have ;)
