It reminds me of all those selfies taken in a messy bathroom. The vista is a beautiful with the classic building and tall ship, but there down in front is a floating bag of garbage. But it works artistically.
I like the focus on the foreground with the soft focus of the building. If you had not mentioned it, I would have thought it deliberate. Nice composition as you say.
Would love a shot of the ship on the left.

Yup, hate when that happens. I personally went out for a shoot few days ago, and when i got back i realized my camera has back-focus, and a really bad one. All the photos were like yours, so i get you.
