Ice on Whyte Festival

in #photography7 years ago

This past Sunday we visited an interesting event: Ice on Whyte.

Edmonton is big enough city, to attract all kind of artists to entertain its citizens.
I know I'm complaining about the cold a lot, but these guys are loving it.
I'll show you some of their work. Or maybe the proper word is art.

You can't see from the photos, but these sculptures are between two and three meters high. And the 3D aspect you can't project with the camera. You can only imagine how it looks like. If you enlarge these photos it'll help a bit.

The more detailed information about this exhibition you can find in @k4r1nn's posts. I highly recommend to check them out. It's a big difference between day and night photos. It's well worth it.

The colors are not so bright because we were there during the day which is not the optimal, but it's a bit better than in the evening. Sometimes minus 15 is warmer than minus 25.

Enjoy the rest of them.

Ice just has something ethereal! It's so amazing doing art and sculptures out of it and even let the light play with it :)
We have some sand sculpures in the city I live! :) They also look so amazing :) I love the idea of making sculptures out of special materials such as ice, sand or snow :)

Seems we are living at opposite world @oldtimer. In the part of the world where i come from, the heat can only be compared to hell. Here's damn hot.

Wow! Those art works are just amazingly perfect. I can imagine how beautiful it would look more at night. Just checked @k4r1nn post. Thanks for sharing those detailed info.

Stunning images, made of what ...

Ice, ice, baby.

This brings back memories, thank you. My hometown has an annual ice fest and the entire downtown business district opens their door to the crowds - it is a fantastic time.

I like that horse and rider sculpture - it is not easy to balance all that weight on a small base.

This is called wonderful art, these sculptures really reflecting as an precious gems of art and we should encourage these type of things because every art is worth for something. So, thanks for sharing this artistic post with us.

Stay Blessed.

This is so beautiful. I'm sure it was amazing to see in person.

Beautiful sculptures and huge painstaking work

this is incredible...amazing clicks..we dont have such competitions here.may be because of the high temperature :) so thank you very much for sharing this experience with us

Ice sculptures are an absolutely beautiful art form. The way the light reflect off and through them enhance the beauty that the artist has already created. What blows me away is the precision with which these sculptures are created and othen with primitive tools such as chainsaws.

Here isn Ottawa we have a Winterlude festival every year and one of the biggest attraction is the ice sculptures. During the first weekend of the event there is a sculpture carving competition where artist from all around come to compete. The artist have a set time to complete their masterpieces. The sculptures then stay up for the next two weeks of the festival for tourist and visitors to admire. The best part often is the stories that accompany the artwork.

As an avid fisherman this is one of my favourites.

Great Find @oldtimer

Wow using the cold winter weather to project an amazing work of art, this is really beautiful.

Wow so beautiful ice gellary photo shoots friend @oldtimer

It is so amazing

Wow... Fabulous photography.

Quite a show! I really like the one with the trees and the girl walking... it reminds me of a fairy tale. All of them are magnificent.

I believe it is from the fairytale.

There are always people who can create a beauty no matter from what ...sand, ice, art masterpiece or even stone drawings in stone age. The human is born to create so long he has imagination and love to value the beauty :9

Good luck master photography

It's really a real art. And art that requires a lot of effort and work of the master. Worthy of admiration and respect.

First of all sir, your clicks are amazing all the time, I mentioned earlier in the second last post of yours "The Oiler's Country", that Edmonton pretty cold city, but the coldest day recorded in Edmonton was on Jan 26, 1972. The temperature was about -48.3C and almost with a wind-chill dropping it to -61C.

sir your work super and loveable but the most valuable thing in your all post is the simplicity which is above the sky.
thanks for sharing................ steem on this exibition show epic work, these sculptures made after a true hard work, heartbroken, I wanna see live this, but @k4r1nn do as well, those clicks are all amazing.

wow beautiful show !

it must take so much skill sculpting those wow

These are ridiculous detail! We have ice sculptures here in Colorado but nothing like this. Sweet pictures

Hvala što ste podelili link, da vidimo kompletnu kolekciju u punom svetlu.

LOVE ice photos, these various people must be very skilled to sculpt these beautiful pieces !

Art indeed! They are so intricate! It takes a lot of talent and gear to keep you warm to carve something like that! Great photos!

Posts that attract festival friends must be very exciting ..
I will upvote and resteem ..

amazing photos, i think they got a festival of ice sculptures in Japan right now! i hate cold too but at least i leave in the very warm and sunny Greece so it's better in terms of that! I guess they keep a certain temperature there right?
